Chapter 3

This was it – I was done. They all hate me and want me to disappear. They want me to leave and die and then burn in hell like I deserve to. They all just want me gone and the car ride home wasn’t any more pleasant than the altercation we all had at the park.

I was sat in the back of Mali’s car in between Ashton and Michael, Devy not even daring to face me or talk to me and Calum sitting in the passenger seat muttering curses and derogatory remarks. I kept my eyes glued to my lap, fiddling with my thumbs and trying to stifle my whimpers.

When Mali dropped me off Mikaela was already waiting on our front lawn, looking up at the pinkish sky and bidding the sun goodnight like she usually did. I waved good bye to everyone and greeted my sister, sitting with her on the grass and sighing loudly.

“I walked Lukey home, hope you don’t mind sis.”

“It’s fine.” I murmured, opening my arms and pulling her close to me.

“Sorry I left…if you needed me or something.”

“It’s alright… You walked Luke home, thank you.”

“I’m sorry they made you cry too… I…” She drifted off and I struggled to hold back the tears that were burning my eyes again.

            “It’s okay…really.”

“How are you going to say goodbye to him?” Mikaela whispered and I sighed, rubbing a hand down my face and forcing myself to not cry again.

“I don’t want to think about it.”

“You’re all…packed, right?” I hummed in response and Mikaela let out a breath. We both laid on the front lawn together, looking up at the sky that was slowly beginning to get darker, but not too dark.

“It’s weird knowing that you won’t be here in a week. I’m not sure how I’ll cope…it hasn’t even hit me yet.”

“Trust me Mik…it hasn’t even hit me yet and I’m the one packing up my life and moving to a different continent.”

            “You can still decline it.”

“What?” I questioned her, a bit taken back by her reply.

“You can always go to uni here.”

            “You want me to stay?”

“It’s not just me.” Mikaela grumbled and I couldn’t hold back the smile forming on my lips.

“Aw Mickey wants me to stay!” I began tickling her sides and she shoved me off of her, laughing atrociously.

“You want me to stay! You want me to stay!” I chanted over and over again as she caught her breath and rolled over on her side to look at me.

“This is mine and Luke’s last resort.”

            “Last resort?”

“I don’t want you two fighting because of this.”

“We just don’t agree on it right now… we’ll settle things; we’ll be fine.”
