Chapter 8
Honestly I believe the answer to Devy’s question would have to come out of Luke’s mouth and not my own. Like I said before, I really don’t know what we are anymore; if I did I would tell Devy but I…. I’m obviously clueless.
I could possibly lie, but I didn’t; I told her that I talked to Luke – or was talking to Luke until he dozed off and got some well-deserved sleep – and she… told me… she talked… to Calum. Yay… the boy with a burning hatred for me.
“He’s finally calmed down a little.”
“Wow. A little after two weeks…”
“I… I mean –“
“It took him two weeks to stop hating me just a little bit?”
“Well…when you look at it like that…”
“Devy,” I groaned, pinching the bridge of my nose, “You couldn’t talk to him for me? You couldn’t explain what happened? Or just told him to let it go?”
“No, not really.”
“Why?”
“Because he was too busy writing or sleeping or trying to get Luke to talk to him. He didn’t have time to talk to me, not until now.”
“Now?” I echoed, taken back a bit, “What do you mean by now Devy?”
“He’s…he’s at my house.”
“Right… and where are you in your house?”
“I’m in my dad’s office… sitting in his chair.”
“Uh huh and where’s Calum??”
“He’s… he’s uh…”
“Right beside you? Sitting on the floor? Standing in the door way?”
“N – I – Well he just –“
“Is he listening in? Has he been listening to our conversation this whole time?!”
“No! No – Not really, he was just…he..”
“Devy.” I growled.”
“Okay okay. Babe say hi.”
“Hey Aggie.” The bassist for 5SOS grumbled and I hummed in response, not very impressed.
“I didn’t mean to snoop or eavesdrop I was at Dev’s and we walked to her dad’s office for some privacy because she needed to talk to me about you and I needed to talk to her about Luke and then she called you so…”
“It’s fine.”
“I want you to tell us what you did to him though.”
“Nothing… I did nothing.”
“Right,” I could hear in his voice that he rolled his eyes, exaggerating the ‘I’ in ‘right’ and rolled my lips into my mouth so that I wouldn’t snap at him, “So him walking away from you at the airport was nothing. Him being quieter than usual is nothing. Him spending more time staring at his phone than the person he’s talking to is nothing. Of course you did nothing to him. You just did everything.”
