Chapter 12

I woke up to the sound of my cellphone ringing in the distance and Calum groaning loudly on the floor. I let out a moan, covering my face with the covers and curling up into a ball, not wanting to get up. After changing and getting ready to sleep, Calum and I talked a bit and then I completely crashed, my lack of sleep no longer letting me keep my eyes open.

“Abigail, shut it off.” Calum grumbled, and I huffed under the sheets. I shoved them off of me and stepped over the bassist who was splayed out on the floor like some animal carcass. I followed the sound of my phone, rubbing my eyes because of how tired and sore… and I actually had some sort of migraine, when I ran smack into Calum’s father.

“Oh good morning. Sorry Mr. Hood –“

            “Abigail?”

“Hi,” I laughed awkwardly, my phone silencing itself, “I was just going to get my phone and turn it off.”

“When did you get back to Australia?”

            “Uh…uh… on the sixteenth.”

“That’s lovely! Were you here last night? Did I miss you?” He creased his forehead and I shook my head, laughing again.

“I came really really late. There was an issure that I had to discuss with Cal and then I slept over. I hope that didn’t cross any lines. He just suggested that I sleep rather than drive home in my… condition.”

“Oh, well I hope you feel better then. What happened? You just got home?”

“I went to visit Ashton and my boyf – Luke…. Luke, wwas there and… it just went wrong.”

            “Are you two still fighting?”

            “Well I –“

“I don’t mean to be nosy or anything but I’ve overheard the boys talking about you two a couple times and how they were working to fix whatever happened and I’m just wondering if their efforts paid off at all.” Calum’s father stared at me intently with a bit of hope swimming in his eyes. I folded my arms across my chest and nibbled on the inside of my cheek. They tried, and they didn’t fail… it just…

“They came rather close to fixing it.”

“Ah, but close is never enough!”

“Oh Mr. Hood when are you ever wrong?” I joked and he patted my shoulder.

“Well, I hope it all works out dear and if you ever need Calum’s help again I understand. Don’t be afraid to come over more often.”

“Thank you so much, it means a lot sir. I really hope it works out as well.” My phone began ringing again and I sighed in frustration, thinking it would just shut up already. I excused myself to find the stupid thing and when I found it in the front room, following the annoying ringer, I snatched it off the ground near the couch Calum had dragged me to. I ambled back to Calum’s room and sat on his back, looking through all my missed calls and frantic text messages and worried tweets.

“Get off, you jerk.” The black haired boy beneath me squirmed a little and I lost my balance on his back, falling beside him onto my own back with a grunt.

            “Ugh, asshole what the hell.”

            “Fuck off, it’s too early.”
