The vows had been shared, the kiss shared, and the applause still lingered in your ears—long after the ceremony had ended.
By the time the reception began, the grand hall had transformed—music filled the air, laughter rippling through every corner.
The newlyweds were the center of attention, yet soon it was Jennie's turn to share one last tradition.
The Bouquet toss.
"Alright ladies!" Jennie shouted—her excitement overcrowding the ones coming from the girls preparing themselves to catch the bouquet.
Meanwhile, you were just standing at the very back, taking another sip of your drink.
You weren't very interested in catching the bouquet throw—though it was your first time taking a part in the tradition.
Jennie turned, the flower bouquet clutched in her hands, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
"Are you ready, girls?!" she called, her voice lilting over the music playing in the background.
The crowd of girls behind her shifted eagerly, some bouncing on their toes, others fixing their eyes solely on the flowers like hunters waiting for prey.
"Three... two... one—!" Jennie swung her arms back as if to toss, then paused, clutching the bouquet to her chest with a laugh.
You hadn't even attempted or moved to catch the flower.
But you couldn't help but laugh at the other girls who groaned in unison, a mix of laughter and complaints spilling from them.
"YAH, UNNIE!!" someone shouted, while another whined, "You're so mean!"
Jennie only grinned, raising her chin in mock innocence.
"What? I never said when I'd throw it."
The crowd's laughter rippled again—louder, their anticipation only growing as she prepared to try again.
As you took the final sip of your drink, a sudden nudge on your shoulder made you startle.
You turned—and there he was: Ni-Ki, standing just behind you, smirk in place, eyes fixed on you.
"What?" your brows furrowed.
"Maybe actually try catching the flower bouquet this time?" he suggested—his tone filled with slight amusement.
"I'm not good at these type of things—" you spoke, trying to find an excuse but he just cut you off—snatching your glass of drink from your hand and gently pushing you further—slightly at the front
"You can't say no until you try it!!" His voice rang out, louder now as he stood further back from the crowd.
Your head snapped toward him instinctively, words already rising to your lips—
But then a sudden ripple of gasps and laughter around you made your whirl back around—facing the Bride.
The bouquet was already in the air, spinning in slow motion, its petals trembling as though the entire hall was holding its breath.
And it wasn't soaring toward the eager hands stretched high behind Jennie.
It was flying straight toward you.
The bouquet spun toward you, its arc sharp and precise, white petals scattering faintly in the air.
You didn't even think.
Your hand shot up, almost on reflex, as though your body moved before your mind could catch up.
And then—soft, weighty, undeniable—the bouquet landed neatly in your grasp.
The hall erupted in cheers and playful squeals, the girls around you groaning in mock defeat.
But you just stood there frozen, staring down at the flowers in your hands, heart thudding like you had caught something far heavier than just some roses.
Soon enough, you heard it.
The whispers.
"I knew she was gonna catch it—it was meant to be." an elderly voice among the audience spoke.
"Doesn't she already have a fiancé though..?" another spoke.
You lifted your gaze—facing Jennie who stood at the very front—smiling.
"CONGRATULATIONS" Jennie shouted, scrunching her nose in pure happiness as she made her way towards you.
Before you could react, she wrapped you in a tight hug, her laughter bubbling against your shoulder as the crowd cheered around you.
But even in that warmth—even in her joy—your eyes drifted past her.
Past the flowers still clutched in your hand.
Past the blur of guests and their applause.
Until they landed on him.
The smirk—his smirk.
Ni-ki.
Unmoved by the noise, untouched by the chaos—his gaze stayed only on you.
The gaze that silently screamed, 'I told you'.
For a heartbeat, everything faded—the laughter—the applause—the whispers.
Everything had faded into the background until it was just him, just that smirk, sharp and knowing, and somehow... impossibly magnetic.
You gripped the bouquet a little tighter, as though holding onto it could ground you in this whirlwind of emotions.
Jennie's joyful voice, the clinking of glasses, the murmur of congratulations—it all became distant, filtered through the pounding of your own heart.
And in that moment, the reality settled over you both: you were together, yes, but bound by promises neither of you had fully chosen.
The world saw marriage arrangements—for stupid business deals and obligations that could one day be forgotten.
But you only saw each other and the years of care masked by words of negligence—the love that once brewed through rivalry—through countless Dance performances that you once used to hate.
Yet you could never ignore it.
The love story that bound you together was something unforgettable.
And you'd fight anything in your way for it.
The path forward was messy, tangled with expectations, obligations and hearts already claimed by others—yet somehow, despite it all, you belonged to one another.
And across the hall, Ni-Ki's smirk remained, sharp and knowing —unmistakably his.
