She walked around her apartment placed in the sunny California weather and with all of the windows open.
She held the white stick that would either tell her that she was about to have to change her life, or she could keep her wonderful early twenties to have fun.
The stick is better known as a pregnancy test.
Arden Davis was the last person you would expect to be having this scare, she was a straight-A student all through school, she would never do anything to go against her parents, and she now remains in California working in a small coffee shop.
At least that's what the weekly gossip had said about her, or better known as the locals of the small town she grew up in.
Her apartment seemed to be getting smaller as she paced back and forth, her head was spinning in circles, and she felt like she could vomit. Which she thought was another sign of pregnancy, and she quickly disposed of that thought.
Arden ran through her head how this travesty could have happened, remembering the liquor, the dancing, and finally the boy. She remembered his dark hair, tanned skin, big brown eyes, and most of all his tattoos.
She ran his image in her mind over and over, but couldn't find a name for his beautiful face. She then decided to call him Caleb, since that's the closest she thought she was going to get.
She looked down at the stick and thought her eyes were playing tricks in her, she saw two lines, and she new her life had just been changed.
She was pregnant.
"Shoot"
"Shoot"
"Shoot"
She threw the stick onto the hardwood floor, watching it break into small pieces, immediately fell to the floor, holding herself, and trying her hardest not to have a panic attack.
Her tears were blurring her green eyes, and the sobs escaping her mouth were evident.
She sat for a moment collecting herself and pulled out her phone, she dialed the number of her best friend and waited.
"Ring"
"Ring"
"Ring"
"R-"
"What is it my dear?" Said the deep voice that belonged to Luke.
"I'm dying." She said quietly as she rocked back and forth.
"We're all dying." He chuckled.
"Now, what's really the problem?" He asked.
"I'm- I'm-" she stuttered.
"Spit it out my dear, we haven't got all day." Luke said impatient, as always.
"I'm pregnant." She said sobbing as she did so.
"I'm on my way." Luke said all too fast, and hanging up.
She stayed in her spot and stared at the ceiling, and wondered why her life was so complicated.
It was a one-night stand, everyone has one night stands, and they even used protection. She scratched her head and rubbed her eyes. Why her? She thought.
Why did she have to be so stupid? She even went with Luke and left the next morning.
She told luke everything, and couldn't help noticing how his jaw clenches every time she talks about her interest in men.
She laughed for a second and laid her head cheek against the cool hardwood, and let her eyelids droop.
She smiled as she thought of Luke and his overprotectiveness towards her, he's been like that ever since they met three years ago.

"So, do you like All Time Low?" The boy who her friends had set her up with asked as she hummed along to the chorus to Backseat Serenade.
She huffed and moved around the uncomfortable bar stool, "Yes, they're awesome." She said with no expression and not even looking at the boy.
She actually liked All Time Low, in fact she loved them, but she didn't even remotely like the boy she was out with.
He had been the biggest frat boy she had ever laid her eyes on, she hated his image and didn't even want to be on the date.
Her friends forced her to pause her "Bones" marathon and get productive, which resulted in this mess.
She prayed for a miracle, and Luke was the answer.
The door swung open to the bar the two had been seated in and a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes walked through the door.
He was tall, taller than anyone she'd ever seen before, had an amazingly attractive lip ring, and the smirk that could kill.
He was hot, really hot.
She watched him walk over to the barstool next to her, she looked up at him and gave a quick smile.
He studied her for a second and nodded at the seat beside her, as of asking for permission. She nodded, and watched as the stool dragged across the dirty floor.
He sat down next to her and released a scent that she has become familiar to, cigarettes and mint gum.
He looked ahead of him at the barista who was twisting her hair around her finger and blowing huge bubbles from her pink gum.
"Excuse me, but can I have a water please?" He asked.
Arden examined his voice.
He talked softly but firmly, his voice was deep but soothing, and him smile was bright.
Arden scoffed.
"A water?" She said looking at him smiling.
He turned his head to face her.
"Yes, what is your point?" He asked furring his eyebrows.
Her smile faded a bit, "I just thought that a guy like you would get whiskey or bourbon." She said truthfully.
Her date had excused himself to go to the bathroom, probably tired of staring at the back of her head.
"Well ,guys like me drink water and talk to beautiful women." He said winking at her.
She giggled.
"You're messing with the wrong women" she said outing air quotes on women.
He chuckled.
"Sorry, I've never really been a charmer." He said watching the barista slide his water to him.
She nodded and smiled to herself, "I find that very hard to believe." She said playing with her straw.
"It's true." He said turning his chair fully towards her.
She looked at him for a few moments, cocked her head to the side, and squinted.
"Well, it's working on me." She said returning her neck to the normal velocity.,
She watched his smile grow, she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and smiled herself.
He extended his long arm and held out his hand.
"I'm Luke."
She extended her own arm and took his hand.
"Arden."
Her date returned, but she didn't turn around again.

The door handle turned and Luke threw his keys into the bowl beside her door.
He was breathing heavy and had his pajamas on, "Arden, I'm so sorry."
He dropped to his knees and picked her up from the cool hardwood, he carried her over to her bed just down the hall and set her down into the covers.
He took her face into his hands and rubbed his thumbs over her tear stained cheeks, "What did you do?" He said watching the tears start to fall.
She slumped her shoulders and looked down at her hands, with his hands still holding her face.
She took in a deep shaky breath, "I messed up." She said groggily.
He pulled her face closer to his own and rested his head on her shoulder, he wrapped his arms around her back and laid down into the comforter.
She put her face into the crook of his neck and disappeared.
