Lorelei's New Beginning

Overdose

      I tried getting Jonah to come home with me. I didn't want him going back to that house with his mother. He refused. He said he needed to take care of somethings. 

      "Text me before you go to bed let me know whats going on," I said to him as he walked me to my front porch. 

       "I will, promise," He kissed me on my forehead and walked back to his truck. 

        I went inside, my aunt and uncle were at work. Alice was in her room pouting like usual.

        I had a ton of homework that I needed to get done, so I took the time I had to get it done. Maybe it will take my mind off of things.

        I worked on my homework until dinner was ready. I couldn't get Jonah off my mind. My gut was telling me something was wrong. I wished my gut wasn't right. 

       My phone rang, Jonahs name appeared. "Can I be excused?" I asked my aunt. She shook her head yes, Alice rolling her eyes.

        "Hello? Hows it going?" I asked. 

        "She overdosed again, Lorelei I don't know if shes gonna make it," I could tell he was crying, the sound of his voice broke my heart.

       "Jonah where are you?" I asked.

       "The hospital, they don't know if they can save her. Lorelei I need you."

        "I'm on my way. Ill be there soon."

        "I have to go," I told my aunt.

        "Lorelei whats wrong?" 

        "My friend needs me right now."

        "Okay, don't be to late."

        I had no clue where the hospital was, but in this small of town I figured it wouldn't be to hard to find. And I was right I found the tiny hospital, where Jonahs mom laid dying. 

        I saw him right away, his head was buried into his knees. Hiding away his tears. I walked up next to him and put my arm around him. He didn't move, just sat there crying, and I just held him. 

        After a few minutes he lifted his head when the doctor walked out, his eyes red and puffy, adding to the black and blue eye he already had. 

        "She's alive, weak but alive. Has this ever happened before? Her overdosing?" The doctor stood there, pity was filled in his eyes.

        "Yea multiple times," Jonah answered his voice cracking.

        "Well then I guess she's one hell of a fighter."

         "Yea you can say that again." 

         "Did you want to see her?" 

         Jonah shook his head getting up, he kissed the top of my head and followed the doctor back to the room. 

         He came back out about an hour later. "You didn't have to wait," He said as he walked up to me. 

         "Yes I did, I needed to know that you were okay."

         He sat in the chair next to me, grabbing my hand.

         "She said she wants to get better. Wants to go to rehab and actually stay clean."

          "And do you think she actually means it?"

          "I don't know anymore. "

           "What happened anyway?"

          

            "I did. We got in a fight. She left, found some drugs. I got a call from the hospital they found my number in her phone." 

            "You didn't make her overdose. She did it to herself. You didn't hold the needle to her arm."

            "Sure feels like it."

            "Well you didn't. Shes the only one who can help herself now."

            As I spoke, a man in a rip t-shirt, jeans,boots with black hair came into the hospital. Staggering to the front desk. 

            "I want to see my Penny," The man slurred. 

            "I'm sorry sir, who is it you want to see?"The nurse at the desk seemed nervous.

            "Penny, she came in here because I called the 911."

            "Sir im sorry but visiting hours are over, you can come back at 8 tomorrow, maybe sober up a little bit," Another nurse answered, she didn't seem nervous just annoyed. 

            "Do not tell me to sober up! My girlfriend is in there, and you wont let me see her!" He started screaming. 

            "Sir, please leave or I will call security."

            He walked out, angry. I looked over at Jonah his eyes were filled with anger as well. 

           "He's the one. He's been the one supplying her the drugs. I'm going to kill that bastard," He began to get up put I pulled him back.

           "Jonah no. So much has happened today. You're not thinking clearly."

           "I'm thinking clearly, I know what I need to do."

           "Jonah you are not a murderer. You are not going to kill him."

           "Lorelei, she almost died because of him. How am I suppose to let that go?"

           "I don't know, but killing the man is not going to make you feel better."

           "You're right. Like always," He hugged me. 

           "I'm going to spend the night here with her. You better get home its getting late," Jonah said. 

           "Are you sure you're going to be alright?"

           "Yea, Ill talk to you tomorrow okay?"

            "Okay," He hugged me, and I hugged him back as tight as I could.

            "Please just promise me you wont do anything stupid." I told him.

             "I promise. I love you."

             "I love you too."
