*her pov*
I've had sweaty palms all day thinking about dinner tonight. We were all going out, my family and Matthews, to dinner. And I wanted to curl up under a rock and stay there until it was over. To me, this was a nightmare in itself. Usually when I get embarrassed like this, it ends up not that bad. Let's hope that is still the case.
The whole evening was pretty casual. We had decided on a barbecue place just inside the city. It was in a pretty good spot, where alot of people were around and cars were constantly driving by. So many things I could pay attention to rather than the potential embarrassment sitting in front of me. I hated when my parents met with other adults because they act TOTALLY different than when they're home and it's just me. They seem so responsible and nice and hard working and not at all concerned with me in any aspects.
I texted Matthew the whole way, he knew how nervous I was.
"It will be totally fine! You know how my parents are. It's okayyyyyy!" he continued to tell me. It didn't help.
We got there and I saw Matthews car arrive as well and I was starting to feel shaky. When I saw Matthew step out of the car mid conversation with his mom and look over at us, I almost felt at ease. Having him in my presence some how made things feel more secure. Our parents meeting and shaking hands was nothing less than an average adult introduction. Matthew swung his arm over my shoulder and kiss the top of my head. Which was mostly easy because of his height.
"Shall we go get a table?" Sarah asked.
"Yes. Is outside okay?" my dad asked around.
"Yes, please." I answered.
"Okay, hopefully there's one available." Mark said.
"How many?" Greeted the hostess just inside the door.
"6" Sarah answered. "And we prefer outside." she added.
"Not a problem. Follow me." She smiled as walked out past us and we trailed behind and sat at the table.
Our parents began talking about their jobs and Matthew and I sat quietly. I zoned off to the zone of cars as they drove past and watched people walk by on the sidewalk. Some people with dogs who would sniff every edge of the sidewalk and some pushing baby strollers.
"Okay, so we want to know if it would be alright for Sage to join us on our beach trip in a week or two. It would be before both of their birthdays and they will be back before hand." Sarah set put the dates and where we would be staying in case my parents were like that. Because we all know ones that are. My parents looked wary and it actually made me mad. Because if they said no it would be ridiculous and I would find a way to go.
"Yeah, actually, I think that would be really fun for her." My mom said surprisingly. I grinned at the thought of things actually working out. I felt Matts hand slip a hold on my knee because I knew he wanted to say he was excited. I was trying so hard not to laugh but he didnt know I was ticklish.
"Great! Yes, I'm glad this is working out!" Sarah said sweetly.
The rest of the dinner was quite boring to be honest. It was mostly the adults talking and Matt and I making short conversation quietly to each other. But the food was good and it went by almost fast.
Luckily, after I get home I got to go baby sitting instead of hanging out with my fantastic parents.

The kids were asleep that I was babysitting and I was just hanging out cleaning up the toys scattered around the downstairs. Matt called once I had said what I was doing.
