Q1. Why do you write?

Answer: Pretty much the same answer as 'why do I read?' They just go together. Plus it's fun to take your imagination out for a spin and writing gives you license to document the journey. By reading, a person learns about the world and other people. By writing, a person learns about his or herself.

Q2. What book do you wish you had written?

Answer: 'Look Homeward, Angel' by Thomas Wolfe - After reading it, I wanted to try my hand at writing.

Q3. What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Answer: Editing. It's hard work, but always pays off. After writing a chapter or poem, I often think it over for days or weeks and tinker with how many words can be removed. A 'less is more' way of looking at it. Another fun thing to do is to see how many different ways a line or paragraph can be written, but with a slightly different twist.

Q4. What inspires you?

Answer: Books, movies, people, animals, love, sadness, joy, loss. Nature. Music. Family. Pretty much everything.

Q5. What's your favorite quote?

Answer: 'Imagination is more important than knowledge' by Albert Einstein.

Another favorite is by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead when he said, 'Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.' For some reason I was always partial to that one : )
