Q1. What book do you wish you could have written?
Answer: Any awesome mystery I've read. Because I've always wanted to be a mystery writer. I just don't think I have the chops for it yet. But I keep working away at my writing and storytelling with the hopes that one day, before I die, I'll write a totally rocken mystery.
Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?
Answer: Everywhere. I'll get an idea for watching the news. Or maybe I'll see someone in the real world and I'll start to wonder what their story is. It's just little things that float into my subconscious. My subconscious starts to work away on these little fragment of information. And then one day my subconscious hands me an idea for a story. But it's never a totally fleshed out idea. I'm not an outliner. I'm a write by the seat of your pants writer. So I take that little spark of a story idea and I start to ask myself a lot of questions. And as I find answers for those questions my story is written.
Q3. How important are names to you in your books?
Answer: I can't start a story until I've picked the main characters names. I first think of what the characters physically look like. Then I start to give them a backstory. What was their childhood like? Did they have a happy childhood? A miserable one? Are their parents divorced? Dead? Still together? Taking what I've come up with their backstory I start build how that childhood made them into the people they are now. I wonder what kind of tv would they watch? What kind of ice cream do they like? What are their best traits? Their worst traits?Once I've started drawing a picture of them in my head, I spend a great deal of time going through internet baby name sites looking for that perfect name. And once they each have a name I can finally sit down and start typing the stories.
Q4. Why do you write?
Answer: I get bored a lot with life. Real life is not as great as the life I have in my imagination. So I spend a lot of time daydreaming. Telling myself stories. If I'm standing in line somewhere—I'm start telling myself a story. If I'm driving around—there is a story whizzing around in my head. I've always had a lot of stories floating around inside me. Even as a little kid. I found a story I wrote when I was ten years old. I was the heroine of the story. It was set in the Wild West. I was a gunslinger. A bad ass, female gunslinger.
Q5. How did you discover Wattpad?
Answer: After I wrote Awakening (the first book in my Dark Rituals series) I was looking around for a place to post it online. And one day I stumbled onto Wattpad. Wattpad has been so much fun. I love posting stories and hearing back from readers. It's one of the best writing experiences I've had.
Q6. What's going on with your Dark Ritual books?
Answer: The first three books in the series were up on Wattpad for 2 years. They got over 3 million reads and Book 1 – Awakening won the best suspense in the Wattpad 2014 prize contest. Because of that wonderful attention I got contacted by a publishing house FFFDIg. I signed a contract and now The Dark Ritual books are up for pre-order - See link below:
