Chapter 2

Cassie's P.O.V

Me and my mum both stared at him as he walked in. He slammed the door and walked over to us.

"Get up." He ordered, his words full of hatred and anger. He grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me up forcefully.

"Mark. What are you doing with her?" My mum said slowly. My dad didn't answer. Instead, he dragged me to the kitchen and pulled out a kitchen knife and held it to my throat. My mom screamed to put me down, he didn't answer.

"PUT HER DOWN MARK OR I SWEAR YOU WILL BE SPENDING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE IN PRISON!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. And again, he never answered. He leaned down to my ear.

"You know that no one loves you at all? You're a mistake. No one would care if you died today. You have no friends anyways, so who would care? Your a waste of space." He whispered. All those words cut me like a knife. I started to cry cause he was right. No one loves me, and no one will.

"MARK! WHAT THE HELL DID YOU TELL HER!" Mom screamed through her tears.

"SHUT YOUR MOUTH AARON OR I'LL SLIT HER THROAT!" He screamed back at mom. "AND DONT EVEN THINK OF CALLING THE POLICE!" He then took the knife and cut my left side, and part of my leg. I fell to the ground in pain and watched as my vision slowly went black. I heard my mom scream my name but I couldn't answer. The pain was too much. I slowly closed my eyes and wait for the darkness to take over.

Aaron's P.O.V (Cassie's mum)

I watched horrified as he cut her left side and leg. I screamed Cassie's name as she fell to the ground. Mark started to run but I threw a textbook at his head. He then fell to the ground unconscious. I called the police and told them what happened. A few minutes later, an ambulance arrived and took Cassie. Mark, however, was sent straight to prison. I called Helen to ask her if her daughter could babysit Cassie when she comes out of the hospital.

*Phone Call*

(A-Aaron H-Helen)

A- Hey Helen, it's me, Aaron.

H- Oh, hey Aaron! How's it going?

A- Not so well... Mark came home today from work drunk as ever and he hurt Cassie... she's in the hospital right now. I'm gonna head over after this.

H- Oh my gosh. Is she okay? What happened?

A- Mark cut her side and leg... the ambulance said she'd be okay but she'd need stitches.

H- I'm so sorry.

A- It's fine. I was wondering, for her safety and so I can get things straightened out, would you mind if Mallory could babysit her? I'd pay her 25 dollars per day.

H- That sounds like a good idea. I'll get Mallory on the phone be right back.

M- Hello?

A- Hey Mallory, it's Mrs.Rembart.

M- Oh, hey!

A- So, I was wondering if you'd like to babysit Cassie? I'll pay you 25 dollars a day.

M- Wait, Cassie? I'd LOVE to babysit her!

A- Great! Okay, I have to go right now, tell Simon and Jared I said hello!

M- Okay! I will. Bye!

*End of phone call*

Cassie's P.O.V

I woke up in a hospital bed with wires attached to me. I looked to my right and saw my mum sleeping in a chair. I also saw the Grace family too. Mrs.Grace, Mallory, Jared and Simon. They were all asleep too. I pressed the red button beside my bed to call a nurse cause I was really thirsty. A nurse then came walking through the door.

"Ah, Ms.Rembart! I see you're awake. Would you like some water?" She asked me.

"Yes please." I said smiling. She smiled back and left to go get the water. I thought about what happened last night and started to tear up. What my dad said was so true. No one loves me. The nurse came back with a water bottle and handed it to me. I was about to sit up but I then felt a sharp pain in my side and on my leg. I yelped from the pain which woke up my mum and everyone in the room.

"I forgot to warn you, you might not want to move much due to pain." I nodded and layed back down.

"I will go get the doctor." She said, then left. Everyone was staring at me.

"Why is everyone staring at me?" I said. It was kinda uncomfortable. My mum laughed a little.

"Sorry sweetie." She said smiling. I smiled too.

"It's okay... um... where's dad?" I asked. I know I should hate him but seriously, he's my dad. I know he was drunk and he put me in the hospital and said all these mean things but, that's his problem, not mine. He has to live with the burning memory of me and how he hurt me.

"He's in prison." Mum said. I nodded.

"So... can I have a hug?" Mallory said. I looked at her and smiled.

"Of course!" I laughed. She smiled and hugged me. Jared came over too and hugged me too. Then Simon, then mum, then Helen. We all broke apart and smiled at each other.

"I missed all of you!" I said.

"We missed you too" Mallory said with a smile.

"Hey Simon, have you finished the second book yet?" I said while laughing a bit. He playfully glared at me. (A/N: I've never read any Harry Potter books before but just pretend they're talking about that series.)

"I'm just starting the 6th." He said matter-of-factly. I laughed again.

"Too bad I finished the series." We both laughed. We always competed on who can finish a series or book the fastest.

Just then, the doctor walked in and everyone went silent so he could talk.
