"I think it's a girl," Ben told you, as he leaned up against your back, trapping you in his arms, as you looked down at the ultrasound you got a few days ago. "That's what you said about Conner," you reminded him. He chuckled and ran his hand over your stomach.
He buried his nose in your hair and said, "I still think it's a girl." He held you in his arms and swayed you a bit in the middle of the kitchen. You were both waiting for Ben's parents to come over to watch the kids, while you went out to celebrate your anniversary.
Well, you weren't so much celebrating it, as you were going to go Christmas shopping. You and Ben couldn't decide what to do today, so you opted for that. You exchanged gifts this morning and Ben made breakfast for you and the kids, but that's all you needed. You didn't need a fancy night out or love declarations and he agreed.
You were taken out of your thoughts when the doorbell rang. Ben kissed your head and went to go answer it, while you made sure the kids were good with their toys and what-not. Nate was playing with his cars, Conner was building with legos, and Emma was coloring.
"Alright, kiddos, daddy and I will be back in a little bit," you announced. You kissed each of their heads, and then waited for Ben to come in with his parents. As soon as he did, he kissed the kids' heads like you, but his kiss on Emma's head lingered for just a little longer.
"Behave, monkeys," Ben told them, before taking your hand and leading you out the door. It was snowing out, so you were both bundled up in your coats and walked arm-in-arm to the shops.
You stopped at a few windows and looked at some things that may have caught your eye and dropped some not-so subtle hints to Ben. He would just hum in thought without saying anything. He may be a fantastic actor, but his poker face was horrible.
After stopping in a couple clothing stores and several toy stores, Ben offered that you guys get something to eat. You walked to a nearby pub and sat in a booth so you could cozy up to each other. You shared some bar food and had a few drinks, while Ben told you about the latest Imitation Game promo he did and how he's been continuing to talk to Marvel about the role of Dr. Strange.
"If you get that role, I will be very, very excited. And you know how I get when I'm excited," you flirted. His eyebrows shot up and he took a sip of his drink. "Where do I sign?" He joked. You started telling him about how you've gotten a few calls to be the head make-up artist for a few movies. Even though a lot of them were in the states, Ben encouraged you to go for it.
Once you finished your food and drinks, you and Ben just sat in the booth holding each other. He kissed your temple a few times, before saying, "I think we should do this every anniversary." You laughed and told him, "Except next year. We need to do something for our fifth. Actually, we should only do something every five years cause that's normally the milestone."
Ben smiled fondly at you and kissed your nose. "You're so cute," he murmured. "I am so in love with you." You placed a smooch on his lips and said, "I am so in love with you, too." He nuzzled his face into yours and purred like a kitten. You giggled and ran your hands through his hair.
"Did you give any thought to our discussion earlier?" He asked against your cheek. You brought his head around so you could look at him and said, "I have. I would love to be by your side at the Golden Globes. It's a big night for you and know how important it is."
He brushed his hand across your cheek, while keeping his forehead against yours. "It's important to me that you be there. I want my beautiful wife by my side." You sighed contently and told him, "I'll always be by your side."
You both shared a long kiss, before getting up and leaving. You started to slowly walk back to the house with several bags under your arms. "These kids are spoiled," Ben chuckled, as he looked at the bags. "They only had their birthday a little while ago."
You grunted and told him, "Don't remind me." He looked at you curiously, then let out a soft, "oh". He tugged you closer to his side and said, "Darling, you have to turn the page. She's been doing so well lately and let's just be thankful for that, alright? She's home and she's surrounded by people who love her unconditionally."
You listened to his words and leaned your head on his shoulder. He placed a kiss on your head and you continued walking in silence.
It was only a few minutes later when you got back home and had to quietly sneak past the children's bedrooms with the rattling bags. Ben put all the gifts on the very top shelf of the closet and placed a blanket over them, in case the kids decided to do some sneaking around.
After saying your goodbyes to Wanda and Tim, you and Ben decided to retire to bed. But not to sleep of course because it was your anniversary!
Ben did one more round check on the kids, before jumping into bed with you. His kisses started out sweetly, then turned tender, and ended up being passionate. He caressed your body like you were a priceless gem and kissed you like you were his last breath of air.
He loved your gentle voice in his ear, telling him how much you loved him and needed him. It just spurred him on even more. He held you close as he moved with long, swift strokes in and out of you. You clawed at his back and he bit down on your neck.
You experienced that at least four times that night. By the time you were done, you were hot sweaty messes. Ben was panting heavily on his back, one arm over his eyes and the other resting on your rapidly moving stomach.
"Christ, love," he panted. "Can it be our anniversary every night?" You laughed and curled up to his side. He held you close and ran his hand up and down your side. He buried his nose in your hair and breathed in your scent mixed with the smell of sex. He loved these moments with you.
"Daddy!" You heard Nate calling from his room. Ben grunted and carefully got up, maneuvering your half asleep body comfortable on the pillows. He pulled on his robe and made his way to Nate's room.
"What's wrong, buddy?" He asked as he walked into Nate's room that was only lit by the nightlight. He sat down on his bed, as Nate answered, "I heard noises, daddy." Ben looked at him curiously and asked, "Noises? What kind of noises?"
Nate thought for a moment and said, "It sounded like a ghost." As soon as he imitated the noise, Ben's eyes blew wide.
That wasn't a ghost.
"Um, Nate, there aren't any ghosts. You were probably just hearing things in your dreams, right?" Nate let his four-year-old brain take this into consideration. "Okay, daddy," he finally said. Ben breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Alright, little man, go back to sleep. And...do daddy a favor and don't tell mummy about the noises. We don't want her getting scared." Nate nodded furiously and Ben tucked him into bed. After giving him a kiss goodnight, he checked on the two other kids, then went back into your bedroom.
You were sleeping peacefully on your side and Ben couldn't hide his smile at the sight of you. He gently climbed into bed and pulled into his arms. You sighed contently and nuzzled your face into his chest.
He definitely won't tell you about Nate's noises because he wanted to fall asleep in your arms every night...not alone on the couch.
