"Mommy!" "Daddy!" You and Ben got into the living room as quickly as you could to comfort your crying children. Ben scooped up Emma in his strong arms and you picked up Nate, holding him close to your chest.
Emma was crying into Ben's neck as he lovingly shushed her and rubbed her back. "It's alright, baby girl, it's alright," he soothingly told her. "I'm here, princess." You couldn't help the smile on your face and tears in your eyes as you watched them.
Nate had stopped his crying almost immediately after you picked him up and was now just holding on to you for dear life as he sniffled. You ran your fingers through his hair and called him a brave boy, to which he smiled and giggled.
Wanda and Tim came out just a few moments later from the laundry room with flashlights and unlit candles. Ben tried to set down Em to help them set up the candles, but she refused to let go of him. So, he had to light candles and set them around the room with one arm.
"Daddy, was that a monster?" Emma asked. Ben chuckled and told her, "No, sweet pea. It was just raining too hard, so the electricity went out. Besides, why would a monster come to get you when he knows your daddy is here to protect you?"
He placed a kiss on her cheek as she said, "But sometimes you're not at home to protect me, daddy." Her voice started to get wobbly and tears were in her eyes again. "Oh, baby," he cooed, "I'm always going to be here to protect you. It doesn't matter where you are, I will be there. Alright?"
She nodded and wiped her tears with her tiny hands. "That's my girl," he said. "Now, let's get you and your brother ready for bed." She put her head on his shoulder and nuzzled her face into his neck as she yawned.
You were on the couch with Nate asleep in your lap. He was snuggled up to you, letting out soft snores. When you saw Ben was going to get Em into bed, you picked up Nate without waking him and followed Ben upstairs.
You each got them dressed in pjs and into bed without completely waking them. Conner was sleeping in his crib near Nate's bed and you went over to it with a small smile. He was sleeping peacefully, unaware of the blackout and everything else around him. You leaned down and softly kissed his head before walking out into the hall where Ben was waiting.
He quietly shut the door once you came out, then turned to you with a sigh. "Can we finish our conversation?" He quietly asked. You crossed your arms and let out a soft sigh. "Yeah," you told him. He gave you a small smile, then led you down the stairs.
"Re-fill on your hot chocolate?" He asked as he picked up your empty cup. You went to object, but he gave you a pointed look with a small smirk. He knows you and knows you want another one. You didn't even say anything, before he said, "I'll be right back."
He walked into the kitchen where his parents were blowing out a couple of candles. "Are you and [Y/N] going to be staying up?" Wanda asked. He nodded and poured some more hot chocolate into each of your cups.
"We're going to, um...talk. I'm not sure if she'll let me back in the house, but we're going to try and talk it out." Wanda and Tim immediately started to get ready to head to bed. "We'll leave you to it, then," Tim said with a pat on his son's back. "I hope you can resolve this."
Ben sighed and told him, "Yeah...me, too." He bid his parents goodnight, then walked back into the living room to see you sitting comfortably on the couch. He handed you your hot chocolate, then sat down on the armchair across from you.
It was silent for a few moments, the only sounds being you both sipping on your drinks. "Every waking moment and even in my dreams," Ben said, breaking the silence. "I can't escape it." You looked at him oddly. "What?" You asked.
He looked down at his drink for a few moments, then said, "The pain in your face when I told you." He looked up at you. "I see it every waking moment and in every dream I have, no matter what it's about." You averted your eyes to the floor.
He continued, "I want to spend every goddamn moment making it up to you. Please let me do that. Give me one more chance. Don't...don't file for a divorce. I know you've been thinking about it. One more chance, baby, one."
He was halfway off of his chair now, leaning towards you. Your head was down, looking to the floor. "Let me come home," he begged. "I love you more than you can ever possibly imagine." He started to chew on his bottom lip as he waited for your response.
You looked up at him from the floor with a look he couldn't read. You didn't look sad or angry or happy. He was loosing touch with his Sherlock Holmes and it was driving him mad.
You took a deep breath, then finally told him, "Okay." He gave you a double take. "What?" He asked in shock. "Really?" You nodded and a he broke out into a huge grin. He got up from the chair and sat down next to you.
"I promise, I am going to do everything I bloody can to earn your forgiveness, I swear it," he told you. "I love you. Tell me you love me." You looked up into his pleading eyes and huffed out a laugh. "Of course I love you," you told him. "I just hate you for what you did. I will never love you for it, I will never like you for it...I will always hate you for it. You understand that, right?"
He nodded and told you, "I know and I can accept that, just as long as I know that you love me." He put his forehead against yours and let out a painful sigh. "I'm so sorry," he whispered. You put your hand on his cheek and whispered back, "I know."
After a few moments, he put his face in your neck and hugged you. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and put your nose to his hair. Oh, how you missed his smell, his arms around you. You missed him.
"I miss you," you whispered. "I really miss you." Tears started making their way down your cheeks. Ben brought his head up and he immediately started wiping your tears with his thumbs. "Please, just...don't make me regret this," you begged.
He shook his head and told you, "No, no you won't. I will never do a stupid thing like this again." He cupped your face with his hands, then kissed you. It took you a moment to respond, but when you did, you put your hand at the nape of his neck and gripped the short hairs there.
He hummed in response, then moved his hands down your body and around to your back. He started pulling you closer to his body, but then you suddenly pushed him away. He looked almost shocked, but then saw the look on your face.
"[Y/N]?" He asked. "Darling, what's wrong?" You put your hand over your stomach, then looked down. There was a pool of wetness all around you. When you looked up to Ben, you said, "My water broke."
