"For starters, can I get you two something to drink?"

Your coworker's gentle voice reaches your ears from across the silence of the café. Gradually, your attention shifts back to your current task at hand: making a refreshing sunsietta drink with extra whipped cream and fruit pieces. With this being the special drink of the week, your hands easily continue the next step, almost robotically, and you complete it without any issues, sliding the drink to the waiting customer.

"Your drink, sir. Please enjoy." You offer a polite smile before turning to the back and working on the next order ticket.

As you're blending a delicious and sweet mixture of valberries and golden berries together, one hand on the blender and the other drumming to the beat of the music softly playing in the background, your thoughts drift to a particular lilac-haired male—the one who is quietly taking drink orders for a table.

Although Simply Sunsietta thrives on vibrant and smiling employees, wanting to create a warm and welcoming environment, he's an exception.

A lot of the customers adore everything about him, so much to the point where some of them specifically request for the dragon if he's available during that time. His serious expression is unwavering as he takes orders, makes orders, and delivers orders. And so the lucky moments of a small smile is truly a gift.

Right as you stop the blender, its sounds fading away, the music filling the space more clearly now, a voice whispers in your ear.

"(Y/N)? Are you okay?"

Startled, you whip your head to the side, heart fluttering at your coworker's close distance. Lovely sunset eyes meet your widened ones. He tilts his head, blinking, and repeats the words patiently, despite this being his fifth time calling out to you (and supposedly tapping you on the shoulder).

"I'm... I'm fine..." you answer after a moment of calming yourself down, not wanting to further look ridiculous in front of your ever growing crush. "I was... lost in thought. Sorry, did you need something?" You lower your head and swallow nervously, carefully pouring the mixture into a glass cup.

Please don't fail me now, trembling hands!

Durin doesn't take a step back; he simply stays where he's at, even leaning his head a bit closer to you, seemingly reading into your serious expression, much like his own. "Are you being honest? Or is this that... thing humans do to hide how they genuinely feel?"

Ugh... Albedo has been teaching him way too much about human behaviors and words. Even your seriousness can hardly fool him anymore. It's not that you're intentionally trying to be secretive and dishonest, really. It's just... he likely won't understand the depths of your admiration for him.

The way your name spills from his lips in a gentle and soothing way; how his eyes slightly narrow in a wordless warning whenever a customer disrespects you; his fingers brushing yours when he passes something over; and the lovely smiles dedicated to you...

A fleeting touch upon your cheek break your thoughts.

"I'm sorry, you have a small bit of the fruit mixture on your skin," Durin explains his intention as he nonchalantly wipes it away, moving his thumb back to show the evidence.

"Oh... thank—"

His tongue darts out to lick the sample off. He nods in satisfaction afterwards. "You're excellent at making these drinks perfectly. Can you teach me this one in particular?"

Stammering over your words, you immediately ask why he did that. Not that he necessarily did something wrong... and you definitely didn't mind his help at all. But how often does someone lick the food or drink away like that...?

"Hmm?" The dragon tilts his head at your flustered reaction. "Albedo emphasized on the importance of never wasting food. I figured drinks are under that category as well." He pauses, rubbing the back of his neck. "Am I... wrong?"

You swear your affection for the male is more intense than ever before. He sounds so deflated, as if being incorrect is going to ruin his entire work shift. And you're certain if his horns can react to the sheer disappointment, they would flatten against his head right about now. Instead, his tail sways carefully behind him.

You chuckle and regard his uncertainty with a warm smile, focusing back on the drink. "No, you aren't wrong," you assure.

One spoon of condensed milk. Stirring. A deep breath. An exhale. Some whipped cream. One sliced fruit nestled on top.

"You know, Durin... I really like you."

The confession somehow flows easily into the space, the quiet admission of your feelings for him floating among the lingering aroma of sundry fruit drinks and desserts. Speaking of which, you should get this order completed soon, unless you want a complaint from table 7.

Durin's lips part, whether from surprise or disgust, who knows. His serious gaze flickers to the side where the rows of delicious syrups rest, and then his brows furrow as his lips press together. He's contemplating your confession, perhaps soaking everything in.

After some time, he begins to share his thoughts, clearly hesitating, "I, of course, like you too, but..." he trails off, "...is this something humans do from time to time with their friends? To... share how much they like and appreciate one another? If that is the case, it seems I have much more to learn about human relationships and how to properly maintain them."

I remember when I first saw Durin's name, I read it as "Durian". I sure would enjoy some of that fruit right now, yum!
