"I-I can explain."
Malachi stands near the door looking calm. He approaches me and I know what's coming already so I brace myself. "I knew this would happen." I open my mouth to explain but shut it as I take in what he just said.
What?
Reading the confused look on my face he continues. "I cheated on you before. When you took me back I knew there was the risk that your feelings weren't all the same anymore. I broke your heart and I also know that it wasn't healed." He looks at Xavier for a minute then back at me.
"It's okay. It was bound to happen."
I know I was suppose to feel relieved that he didn't hate me or cause a scene, but I felt kind of bad. With a rush in the moment my arms wrap around his neck. His arms go around my waist tightly us both knowing this is probably the last time. "Thank you." I whisper knowing only he can hear. I didn't have to explain myself because we had a silent understanding.
Xavier awkwardly coughed behind us causing us to break our embrace. Without saying another word Malachi walks out leaving the air filled with quietness. "Brooks. I'm not going to ever let you go." Biting my lip, I put my hands in my pockets wondering what move to make next.
Do I tell Kaylie or- wait why was Kaylie really there yesterday?
"Zav?" I look up at him. He raises a curious eyebrow. "Why was Kaylie at your house yesterday?" He didn't look at me, instead he paced. "She knew I didn't like her. That's why she kissed me to see if I'd pull away. I broke up with her but I guessed she already braced herself for it."
That made so much sense now. Wait. No it didn't. My mind racked for reasons why she wouldn't tell me about the break up this morning or in text. Usually she'd sob for days after a break up. This made no sense. I close my eyes and try to balance myself. A fainting feeling fell upon me and I was left in a daze.
"Brooks are you alright?" Xavier steadies me with a concerned look in his eye. I nod hoping the daze would just be temporary. Taking deep breaths and keeping myself steady by holding onto Zav, I felt much better. "I'm good I'm good." I shoo him away.
We make our way to our classes and throughout the day I try to avoid Kaylie as much as I can until my luck runs out. "What the hell Maddie?" I give her an innocent confused look. "Cut that bullshit out." She points an accusing finger my way. "You know you're avoiding me for no good reason!" Clearly she is getting frustrated.
I sigh and take her to a bench. "I have to tell you something Kaylie." I'm with Xavier wether you like it or not. Nope, not a good idea. How about I'm with your ex boyfriend. Ugh that's equally horrible. "Earth to Maddie!" Kaylie waves her hand in front of my face. "Did you hear a word I said?" She frowns deeply.
I shake my head a little embarrassed that I ignored her. "Well humpty dummy, I said that me and Xavier broke up." Sheesh! She just made it a million times harder. "Yea I know." I mumble beneath my breath but Kaylie never let anything I say slip by her.
"What the heck do you mean 'I already know'!"
Kaylies inner ratchet was about to come out anytime soon. "Well I uh- there's something I need to tell you." I hang my head avoiding her intense stare. "Xavier and I..."
I wasn't too sure if I was seeing things but Kaylie looked as if she was waiting a bit annoyed. "Me and Xavier... We have been seeing each other." Her face gave away no emotion. "Seeing each other." She repeats. "How so?"
Ugh this is harder than I thought. My brain works in a speedy pace to put it in a sugar coated way.
"We like eachother. And well, we've had intimate moments. A lot actually."
