Morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting the Rajawat mansion in soft gold. Birds chirped from the balcony railings, the air fresh, crisp — but inside Shree’s chest, everything still felt heavy.

She stood before her mirror, applying a light tint of gloss to her lips, adjusting her dupatta with steady hands. Her reflection smiled — perfectly normal, perfectly cheerful — but her eyes betrayed her. They looked tired, swollen from the night spent crying quietly into her pillow.

Smile, Shree,” she whispered to herself, forcing the corners of her mouth upward. “Everything’s fine.”

She practiced the smile once, twice, until it almost looked real. Then she picked up her bag and stepped out of her room.

Downstairs, the Rajawat family was as lively as ever — laughter bouncing off the marble, Daksh cracking jokes, Maa scolding Disha for being late, Baba hiding behind the newspaper.

Good morning!” Shree greeted, her tone bright.

Disha immediately threw her arms around her. “Oye Miss, you finally woke up!”

“Of course,” Shree giggled. “Couldn’t miss college, could I?”

Her voice was light, but only she knew how carefully she was balancing her mask. She could feel Ishan’s absence at the table — and that, strangely, made it easier to breathe.

Still, his words from last night clung to her ribs.

I have someone I like.

She blinked the thought away before her smile could falter.

The college courtyard buzzed with energy. Posters of “ANNUAL FIESTA 2025” fluttered in the breeze. Music played from portable speakers, laughter echoed from the dance hall, and groups clustered everywhere — excitement almost tangible.

Ishqi, Misha, Sid, and Reyansh walked in together, teasing, laughing, and carrying steaming cups of chai from the canteen.

Sid nudged Ishqi. “Tu toh star dancer banne wali hai. Jiju ko bolu kya ki tere autograph le le abhi se?”

( You are going to be the star dancer.. Should I tell brother-in-law to take your autograph now only)

Ishqi rolled her eyes. “Bas kar drama king.”

( Stop it drama king )

Reyansh grinned. “Nahi seriously. Tere expressions killer hote ja rahe hain. Koi bhi ladka ghayal ho jaye”

( Your expression is getting killer day by day..any boy will get injured)

They reached the dance room, where pairs were already practicing. Ishqi’s name was called. Her partner for the annual day was a third-year senior — Raghav, charming, tall, confident, and known for his graooóceful dance moves.

The instructor clapped her hands.

We’ll go with Tum Mile – Love Reprise version. Romantic feel, slow build-up, and emotion in every step. Ready?”

Ishqi nodded, her heart fluttering slightly.

The music began — soft piano notes filling the room.
