The Rajawat mansion slept under a veil of moonlight, but sleep did not come easily to its inhabitants.
Shree stood at her balcony long after midnight, the cool marble beneath her bare feet grounding her restless heart. Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked. The city lights blinked lazily. Her phone screen glowed faintly in her palm a msg in clg group — the same picture, opened again and again.
Her.
Aarav.
Frozen in a moment that wasn’t love — but looked dangerously close to it.
She sighed and locked her phone, pressing it to her chest.
Why did things always become complicated when they started to feel simple?
Inside, laughter echoed faintly — Ishqi’s laughter. Familiar. Warm. Safe. Shree smiled faintly at the sound, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes.
She knew Ishqi too well.
And she knew — Ishqi had done something today.

Meanwhile two floors above, Ishan leaned against his own balcony railing, tie discarded, sleeves rolled, jaw clenched so tightly it ached.
He hadn’t gone to bed.
He hadn’t been able to.
The image refused to leave him — not just the photo, but the way Shree had laughed tonight. The way she hadn’t looked at him while laughing.
You look good with him.
The words echoed back at him like a cruel joke.
Why had he said that?
Because it was safer than saying the truth.
Because jealousy was easier than confession.
Inside, his phone buzzed with notification...
A story from Ishqi’s account.
His thumb hovered.
Then tapped.
A video — dance practice. Shree mid-spin, her dupatta floating like a whisper, Aarav guiding her effortlessly.
Ishan’s breath stalled.
The room felt smaller.
Hotter.
His fingers curled slowly into fists.
“So that’s it,” he murmured, voice hoarse.
He shut the phone down, pressing it against his forehead.
What he didn’t know — what no one did — was that Aarav Mehta had been waiting for an opening like this for years.
Breakfast at the Rajawat house was unusually lively.
Ishqi sat perched on the counter, sipping coffee, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Rajveer stood beside her, buttoning his cufflinks, calm as ever — except his jaw tightened every time Ishqi checked her phone and smiled.
“You’re in a very good mood,” he remarked casually.
She hummed. “Can’t I be?”
“You usually look like this when you’re planning chaos.”
She grinned innocently. “Me? Never.”
From the dining table, Shree watched them quietly, buttering toast she had no intention of eating. Her gaze flicked between them — the comfort, the unspoken bond, the familiarity.
She envied it.
Ishan entered then, crisp in a charcoal shirt, eyes sharp, presence heavy. The air shifted subtly.
