Caroline
It was about 6:30 am when my mother woke me from my beauty sleep - or so I call it. I was still thinking about what Derek said last night, so I looked down the hallway into the living room to see if Derek was still asleep. He was snoring like a baby. Lucky ass.
I padded into the kitchen and saw that there was fruit and cinnamon rolls just like the day before. I took some fruit and a cinnamon roll and ate silently at the kitchen table. I was still tired from last night and couldn't sleep after what Derek said to me last night.
"Good morning," My mom said, entering the kitchen with Cole behind her.
"When are we leaving?"
"As soon as you finish breakfast and when Lisa gets Spencer and Derek up."
"Okay," I finished my breakfast and threw away my paper plate. Spencer make her way out to the living room, rubbing her eyes while Derek came out prepared for the day.
"Morning," I whispered to Spencer. Not everyone was up and awake yet like Derek.
"Good morning," she yawns and makes her way to the kitchen.
"Caroline, don't forget to bring these brownies with you before you leave," Lisa called as she was taking some brownies out of the pan and putting them on a paper plate.
"Thank you for the brownies, you really didn't have to,"
"I don't mind! You guys are family," she gives me a big hug and goes down the hallway.
"So are you sad you're leaving?" I turn around and face Derek.
"Yeah, I love visiting you guys. You're like a second family,"
"Yeah," he looks down and rubs the back of his head. He's nervous. What would he think if he knew I heard what he said to me last night?!
"I think I need to start packing the car up,"
"Oh yeah! Do you need help?"
"No thanks, I got it," I pick up some bags laying in front of the doorway and take it to our Honda Odyssey parked in the driveway.
"Here's the rest of it," I look up to see Derek carrying all the rest of our bags out to the car.
"Derek, you didn't have to do that,"
"Well I wanted to," I raise an eyebrow at him.
"Someone's feisty this morning," he chuckles.
Back inside the house, everyone is hugging and saying their goodbyes and farewells.
"Come and visit us soon Lisa! Doug doesn't mind the company at all!" my mom tells Lisa.
"Okay, we will."
"Bye Spencer," I hug the tired girl and tell her good luck with her boyfriend.
I hug Mrs. Lisa and then turn to Derek.
"Well, this is goodbye," I tell him.
"Yup, now come here," I jump up and give him a big bear hug then kiss him on the cheek.
"See you later Derek," I smile as I back track to shotgun. Once I'm in the car, we all wave to the Correy's and are just about to drive off when I remembered the brownies.
"Mom! The brownines!"
"Oh shoots! Go run up and get them,"
I see Derek look confuse as I jump out of my car and run up to him.
"We almost forgot the brownies,"
"Oh yeah, wait here a minute." he rushes into the house and brings back a plate full of delicious chocolate brownies. "Here you go," he smiles at me.
"Well now this is goodbye," I say to him.
"No, its never goodbye. It's only goodbye for now," I hug him and rush back to the car, waving at him as we drive off, thinking I would see him again in a few months. I was oblivious to the fact that my dad would get transferred two states over in the next couple of months and I wouldn't see Derek again.
