The golden glow of a soft summer's sunset
As I walk peacefully along the sandy shore
Caresses my skin and reflects in the cold, crisp, crystal clear water
As I walk alone, relieved in my solitude once again

In the distance I can hear the wind, rustling through trees towering into the sky
Birds calling, unique in their sound, for a companion
The high, grassy dunes, humming with the urgent buzz of a thousand bees
The waves lazily lapping as I relish in my solitude once again

It all looks so temporary, so very mundane
One storm is all it would take for this mountain of sand to be forever washed away
This day grows old and tomorrow it will all change
But not me, I walk alone, and always have done, relieved in my solitude once again

I am not, it seems, completely alone on this warm summer's evening
I simply immerse myself in illusions, the intrusion unwelcome, although I am unsurprised, pleasantly
Besides, they would not be here for me, beneath the sky surrounded by a vast expanse of nature
If I need nobody, then it stands to logic that nobody needs me
On my own, floating within, as part of the mist of humanity
Never noticed, never needed, I can simply observe and see what I see

I can just be.
