Evergreen
Pine trees
On a bed of sand
Deep blue
Of the sea
As a sailboat comes in to land
Intense red
Her head
Surrounded by a pool of blood
Eyes unseeing
Tears gleaming
Threatening to unleash a flood
Bright white
The doctor's light
Blinding and sharp and small
Sharp breath
The stench of death
As trembling hands make the call
Wordless mutter
A little flutter
As a bird spreads its wings, poised for flight
Golden sand
Her hand
As she gives up her final fight
A small flick
The shutter's click
As I preserve the moment forever
Crystal clear
Trickling tears
As the family grieve together
The bird lets fly
A single cry
Goodnight, little girl
Goodbye.
