IT was officially Milani's first day of college, and nervous was an understatement. She laid in her bed already contemplating on skipping her first day of classes. Unfortunately she was a victim of the 8am but it was either that or take a 3pm. She chose the first option.
Groaning, she finally rose from her twin sized bed with a low groan before stepping down onto her mini ottoman. She headed into her bathroom and began to do her morning routine.
Milani had been on Spelman campus for the last week, she was so lucky that she had her own room with an attached bathroom and shower. She couldn't handle having a roommate or communal bathrooms.
She had been busy the last week or so getting settled into her dorm and getting accustomed to her campus. She had also been having practices every other day while also trying to keep up with welcome week.
She turned on her music and Living Room Flow by Jhene Aiko played on her phone as she began to get ready for the day. Today she only had 2 classes which were English 1001 and her human development class that only met once a week, it was a hybrid class. She was finished with classes at 10:45am and she was so lucky.
She hadn't been to sleep until around 1am this morning because she was up all night on the phone with Ziya and Londyn. Despite them no longer attending the same school they kept in contact. Ziya attended community college for her CNA and Londyn went to a hair school that she actually got paid to work at while also learning about her profession.
After a while she was finally ready for class, she had packed her tote the day before so she grabbed it, a granola bar and a bottle of water before she headed out her hall.
Once 10:45 hit Milani was on her way to her car to get her some food from Dunkin, her classes were pretty decent, they seemed very strict so far. A lot of rules. She had 5 classes this semester so hopefully it wasn't a large workload.
Once she reached her car she immediately turned on the air, it was well over 90 degrees today. Milani loved her some summer but fall was calling her name.
Pulling out of the lot she headed to the nearest Dunkin Donuts where she got herself a refresher as well as a sausage, egg and cheese croissant. She ate her food in her car before she made her way back to her campus. She had met a few people that she saw herself hanging out with but she didn't expect too much from the friendships considering it was just welcome week.
When she got back to her dorm she sat at her vanity and called her mom.
"Hi baby, you done with classes already?" Gina answered the FaceTime call with a smile on her face.
"Yep, I have no idea what to do with the rest of the day," Milani sighed looking over at her bed which looked extremely comfortable at the moment.
"Go over your syllabus," she replied.
"Ooh that's smart, I'm gonna add all my exams and assignment due dates to my calendar," she spoke pulling out her calendar from her bag.
"Good, well I'm getting ready to head into work babe, imma call you later and see how your day went alright?" Gina smiled softly making Lani nod.
"Okay have a good day, love you," Milani told her mom.
"Thank you, you too and I love you more, you need anything?" She asked her daughter who shook her head. Her mom had been sending her money all week.
