Part 2[First]'s new mother had been from Sodenberg, a rich trading country that many traders wished to go to. How her father got there was beyond her. Sodenberg had been surrounded by saltwater. Boat fees were very high there.
[Father] rarely goes to trade when water fees are involved. So was this woman so important that her father actually managed to dig up some money to go visit her in Sodenberg? Apperantly she was important. An heiress to the largest jewelry company the country.
Even important to the point she had guards following her and her two daughters (both [First]'s age) on their way to the door. [First] found it quite odd. As if someone would want to assassinate or kidnap a woman like her. Her brown hair had been oiled too much and her clothes were too flashy in this part of the country.
Her daughters looked like they just had a wardrobe change from all the dresses left behind in the carriage from where [First] can see. One girl had brown hair similar to their mothers, while the other had fiery red hair, obviously colored, since it looked poorly done. But [First] kept her opinions to herself as she had been taught by her mother and father to never judge a person by their appearance.
"Oh my look at her hair." The red head commented to her sister, attempting a whisper, even though they were a few feet away and their whispers were as loud as the creaky floorboards from the attic. "It looks like a house of birds nestled in it."
They giggled and hid behind their fans, as if she weren't able to see them laughing at her [Frizzy/Curly/Straight] [H/C] from behind the thin pieces of folded paper. She bit her tongue back to keep her from both screaming and yelling.
[Father] sensed his daughter's intense rage and rushed to the introductions. "[First], I want you to meet Duchess Idra Valencia Wittle. These are her daughters, *Iris and Iona Wittle." He turned to the flashy older woman. "Idra, this is my daughter [First] [Middle] [Last]."
The woman gave a sharp glare at the girl, who returned the favor, but with less hostility toward her. Iris - the red head - gave her [F/C] dress a look of distaste. "I like your dress," She said. "It reminds me of the water in Sodenberg. Gross and ugly."
Is that why you're personality is like that, too?
[First] only glared as she thought of the insult she felt like throwing. Iona cackled. [First] bit her lip as she watch the family coachman, Fredrick, walk up and get their luggage. She walked in and before she had time to move up the stairs, Iona and Iris pushed past her.
[Father] gave his daughter an apologetic look as he walked in to see her. He helped her up. "You'll get used to them, dear. It'll be nice having sisters and a mother."
Oh, how wrong he was. Iona and Iris were nothing but trouble. Always knocking things over. And the Duchess would always be there to ask what had happened. And who did they blame it on? [First]. Even if she wasn't in the room, she'd be in big trouble. She had wanted to tell her father, but for the sake of his weary heart, she kept silent.
The Duchess had been ten times worse. It had started with one small task. To get her dresses. And so she did. Then it was to clean the dishes. She did so. Then it began with doing things all at once.
[First] go scrub the floors.
[First] go iron your sisters' dresses.
[First] go feed the chickens.
It was always [First] this, [First] that. The servants that they had left couldn't help, for they fear that they would lose their last job for attempting to stand up to the Duchess. [First] couldn't blame them.
