Part 3"[First]! Come down here now!" A small bell chiming from the top of her room rang over and over. The girl sighed as she rolled over from her bed and sighed. How many months had passed since her father's death? No. That's not right. How many years? Two. [First] was on the verge of turning nineteen.
Those two years were nothing but orders, orders, orders. And [First] hated it. It genuinely made her want to have a reason as to why she wasn't at home as much. She used to love being at home before. Her parents were there and the servants they had before were nice. Now all [First] had gotten was a list of chores, an annoying step family, and sleazy servants with the little money they had to fork over to get help.
The only friends [First] managed to make was the family of mice living in between the walls. At first, they were just vermin that needed to be taken care of, but after the mice proved themselves to [First] after fooling the Duchess's cat, Luciano, a small friendship began to form. Even if the mice weren't human, they were more loyal than the nasty Iris and Iona.
A bit friendlier, too she might add.
They helped her whenever the Duchess had been out of town with her daughters, most likely going to Sodenberg to brag to her rich friends about the "big mansion" they bought with [Father]'s money. Cooked, cleaned, chased Luciano away, you name it. Those mice had the strength and humanity of a thousand people combined. [First] couldn't have asked for better friends. Everything had been a very depressing downfall after her parents' duel deaths, but she couldn't be any happier when she was with her friends.
She didn't have to think about the Duchess and her evil stepdaughters whenever she worked with the mice. Everything felt... Calm and peaceful. Like nothing seemed to be the end of it. Today had been different though. [First] had an odd feeling that something bad was going to happen. It sank to her chest as she walked out to make breakfast for her cruel family. One of the mice, Gepetto (pronounced: ja-PEH-toe), jumped into the pocket of her apron. He was newly found, rescued in a mouse trap set up by the Duchess so she can feed him to Luciano.
[First] freed him before Luciano got the chance to make Gepetto his lunch.
He's been glued to her ever since. His chubby little stomach caused the apron pocket to bulge out, making [First] stuff a few tissues in there so her nosy and bratty stepsisters won't bother asking her what's in the pocket. She ran down the steps quickly and hurried to the kitchen down in the basement. Cooking was hustle since no one else was around.
Gepetto wiggled around in her pocket and she looked at the chubby mouse sharply. "Now, Gepetto. What did I tell you about moving too much around in my pocket? You don't want Luciano to catch you, do you?"
The mouse poked his head out and shook his head at the [H/C] colored girl. She giggled when she felt no movement from the chubby mouse anymore. She grabbed the oats and began to mix it with boiling water. As she stirred she hummed a small tune from her childhood (YouTube video).
Gepetto moved ever so slightly so his tiny ears can hear his favorite owner hum. As she was about to speak to Gepetto, a loud, empty scream caused her to jump in alarm, then sighed when she heard the familiar scream.
[First] suspected Iris was awake, since she was the one who usually screams in mornings. No one in the house can match the pitch of horrendous scream. She hurried with her cooking and hurried up the small steps which lead to the dining room.
Sitting on the table were three people. Iona, Iris, and the Duchess. They Iona and Duchess cackled at a half-assed joke while Iris sobbed about her hair placement. [First] sighed, slightly annoyed at her step sister's continuous crying. She quickly put food on their plates and ran down the stairs to eat the scraps she left behind for herself.
