Chapter Ten

"I don't trust Jack." Tom said when we had a movie night together with Matt and Simon on Friday. He sat beside me by the bar stools and leaned his elbow on the counter. Sarah's already a problem, now Tom is dragging Jack down?
"What makes you say that?" We both looked at Simon as he watched the sci-fi movie in awe, "I've seen him at school—"
"Hey guys need somethin' to drink?" Matt interrupted Tom as he opened the fridge and grabbed a can of beer. I haven't seen Jack since Wednesday, Matt summoned him at Tuesday but Jack hasn't return since then. Matt could only merge with the clone once they're nearby which was a bit unsettling.
"I'll take the Four Seasons." I said to Matt and shifted my seating position, "I'm good." Tom said. Tom has always been silent ever since I "moved" here in Matt's house. This is the first conversation I've had with him other than "sorry" or "good morning". Matt gently puts the can of Four Season juice on the counter in front me after my reposition.
"I'm telling you this because," Tom glances to his left and right, "I've seen him kill. Jack isn't what you think he is, he's a murderer. I don't know how he killed those people I've seen dead but I have the gist he has powers." I was certain that Jack had powers just like how Simon had his signal tracing so Jack could also be a danger but I still couldn't completely believe in Tom.
"I'll take your friendly warning," I wasn't sure whether I should tell Matt too. Jack could also have something to do with the pictures I saw in the weird album, I took a sip of the canned juice and cleared my throat, "Tom Ace."
Tom flashed a toothy grin and left his bar stool right after my last statement. "That is so fucking cool!" Simon blurted when the evil scientist in the movie made a clone of himself through a weird looking machine.
"We're cooler." Matt said then took a seat beside Simon. It was funny to look at them together, they looked like twin brothers, something I have always wanted from my parents.
As the night grew darker, the tension got heavier. Jack could spring up anytime and murder us all, and did I actually believe in Tom? The way he talked sounded reassuring, his eyes pierced with a sense of truth and modesty. Being in this house full of boys made me feel under pressure too, I felt like I was their little sister or something, it's strange but antic.
Matt floated up from his seat with his legs crossed, he probably hasn't noticed. He does that seating position whenever he felt heavy and tensed, he told me about it while we were having breakfast together alone yesterday Thursday. He shared a couple of other stuff too, which criminals he's captured, what his hobbies were, what his parents looked like.
Matt's parents lived far-away in another state, Washington DC I believe. He talked about how he understood how I felt which made me feel less lonely.
"You're starting school at Monday, right Rose?" Matt asked while his eyes were glued to the movie. Uck, this felt like Matt was my parent or something; he wouldn't let me jog for more than thirty minutes outside; he wouldn't allow me to go pick up grocery without Simon by my side; he wouldn't allow me to make out with Simon...or Tom, not that I would want making out with either two of them.
"Ugh...Yeah, Jack too right?" I asked and bit my lower lip as the mad scientist of the movie disected the captured human alive, "Yep." Simon replied. I guess you could say I'm with Matt all the time, and, and since I've kissed Simon the biologically mutated human which is an exact clone of Matt's past, doesn't that mean I've already kissed Matt?

It was that day which changed my entire fate, and no, not meeting Matt Simon but discovering that dad was...dead.
