I was in the kitchen washing dishes when my son pounded on the front door. I put the plate I was washing back in the sink and dried my hands. He banged on the door again. So impatient. Before he could knock again, I walked over and opened it. He immediately ran inside. I shut the door.
"What has gotten..." I turned toward him, mid sentence, and froze.
His clothes were covered in blood. His boots, caked in mud and dirt.
"Mom. They're after me." He said.
"Who?" I asked, still taking in his appearance.
"Bad men. Trying to take me away. They were gonna put me in their car." He sniffed.
"Are you...okay?"
"I-"
Before he could finish his sentence, someone else pounded on the front door. My son ran off, probably to his room. I opened the door, and to my surprise, saw two police officers.
"Officers, my son-" I started.
"Is he here?" One of them asked.
"Yes but-"
They immediately went around me and came inside.
"Where?"
"I think he's in his room. It's the door by the kitchen. Is this-"
Before I could finish my sentence, both of them drew their guns and approached my son's room. Then I heard them yelling at him, telling him to put his hands up. When they came out, they had my son in handcuffs.
"Officers, I think there's a misunderstanding. My son-"
"Your son killed his classmate. When we saw him, he ran."
