Chapter Four

Twelve drinks later I was on the road to getting absolutely mortal. Good thing I was legal.

I'd barely had a drink before in my life, only with my neighbour's kids one Christmas while my parents sat downstairs with the rest of the adults playing board games and sipping sherries.

I wobbled where I was standing as Kim poured me another drink and handed it to me. The music was pounding in my ears and rattling through my chest but I loved it. Being drunk meant my senses had sort of gone and Luke was barely even visible to me, never mind audible and so I was unable to hear or care about most of his immature jibes.

"Come dance with me!" Kim yelled over the music. Grabbing my hand, she yanked me from the kitchen and pulled me through to the large, spacious living room.

In the far corner, two people sat on top of each other trying to swallow the other whole, whilst others scattered themselves across the settees; shouting loud conversations and spilling their drinks on the oak floor. In the middle of the room, bodies jumped around dancing to the beat of the song.

A drink in hand and feeling confident; I jumped into the sea of sweat and started jumping like crazy. Tossing my body in all directions I loosened myself up and let myself go, losing it to the music. All around me, people where doing exactly the same as we all moved together. Every now and again I'd take a sip of my drink before going straight back into the dance and leaping around like some sort of crazy frog.
The whole house was bouncing; swelling up and spitting out balls of energy. Every room was like a new party and with a house this big, the party would go on all night. I knew I should probably find my brother and go home, following my parents rules but who the hell cares. I'm young and all I want to do is have fun. Forgetting about it, I leaped around more and more; twisting my body, shaking my booty and flinging my arms into the air and probably spilling some of my drink onto other people but I still didn't care.
Only when the song ended did I finally sit down and wipe the sweat from my forehead. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and the screen lit up.
5 missed calls from mum.
Leaving my cup lying on the floor, I bolted outside and stood a distance away from the house as I went to call my mother back. Hoping the fresh air had sobered me up slightly, I called my mum back and waited for the roar of mother bear.
"Hello?" Her voice came from the other end.
"Hey mum, sorry I never picked up." I told her, trying to keep myself from sounding like I couldn't even walk in a straight line.
"What happened?! Are you two okay?"
"Yes. Yes. We're fine." I reassured her. "We dropped off your casserole to Elizabeth and Matías started playing videos games with Jeremy. Liz wasn't in so I was speaking to Kim." My voice cracked at the end and I cursed inside my head.
"Oh, are you still there now?"
"Yes."
"Okay dear, well I think you should maybe head home now. Matías has footy training into the morning." My mother told me. I could hear my fathers loud laugh behind her and a mixture of different people speaking.
"Okay sure. I'll tell Matías now."
"Okay thanks honey. Love you and be safe."
"Love you too." I told her before hanging up. Phew. That was too close. Stuffing my phone back into my pocket, I struggled to walk back up the steps to Kim's house. Once I reached the door I spotted Luke from across the hallway. It was one of those awkward eye contact moments where you just stare intensely right into someone's eyes for a solid ten seconds before eventually pulling away. Leaving his conversation with Ashton and another guy I never knew he walked over to me and stopped about thirty centimeters away.
"Had enough?" He laughed. His breath smelt only of heavy nicotine.
"I'm going home." I told him firmly. "So I need to find my brother." My words wobbled and I could feel my eyes rolling in my head.
"Hah, lightweight." He scoffed, the conceited tone just drooling from his words. "And how do you suppose to get home?"
"I have a car dumbass." I replied, rolling my eyes again. I could see his jaw clench at the insult.
"You can't drink and drive." Luke replied sternly.
"But I'm fine."
"You can't even stand normally. Never mind driving a fucking vehicle."
"Well how else am I supposed to get home?" I questioned, swaying side to side. My head started to pound from the mixture of alcohol and loud music and I realized it probably was time for me to go home. Luke never replied. "I'm just going to get my brother." I told him, heading for the steps to the basement.
"No wait." Luke's six foot frame blocked me as I tried to move. "I'll drive you home. I haven't been drinking."
"I'm very happy for you but I need to get home. Thanks for the offer though bud." I side stepped him but must have stepped on a loose floorboard or something because next thing I knew I was sprawled out, face down on the landing next to the basement stairs.
"You defiantly can't drive home." Luke told me as he picked me up and gripped onto my arms as I struggled to find my footing.
"Luke Hemmings, I do not think you should do that." I slurred, still unable to stand normally. His large hand where still on my bare arms and it's a wonder I wasn't screaming at him for pressing the bruises he gave me and making them worse.
"Yes I am." Directing me down the basement steps, I found myself in a dark room with only a giant TV screen for light.
"Hey Jeremy!" I said to the teenage boy sitting on hid phone in the corner.
"Hey Mila, Matías fell asleep like an hour ago." He told me, pointing to my snoring little brother in the corner. Before I'd gotten the chance to think about it, Luke walked over and picked up Matías in his gangly arms and held him gently like a little baby.
"Let's go." Luke said as he tried to manoeuvre himself up the stairs without waking my brother.
"Is that Luke your boyfriend?" Jeremy asked me.
"Who that guy? No way!" I laughed, giving big arm gestures.
"Kind of seems like it." Jeremy said with a cheeky smile that was only illuminated by some bank commercial that had came on the TV.
"How?" I laughed. I feel if someone had asked me this sober I probably would've put them in this place but I was drunk and curious.
"He's looking after you?" Jeremy replied.
"Nah he's not. He's probably going to crash the car or something because if I'm honest I think he wants me dead. He doesn't like me very much." Every word just kind of mashed together into the sentence but Jeremy seemed to understand.
"Luke a nice guy, I don't think he would do that."
"Luke is not a nice guy!" I practically shouted, suddenly defensive.
"He's been teaching me guitar since I was like five, and he's super talented."
"I didn't know he played guitar but he's not nice to me anyway Jeremy."
"That's why he's here. He and his buddies Calum, Michael and Luke teach me to play the guitars and drums and stuff. They're super funny."
"Well Jeremy, I pray you never see the side of they boys I see, especially Luke. He is manipulative, deceitful, conceited and a downright nasty person." I told him firmly. "Good night Jeremy.
"I pray to God I don't ever see that then Mila. Good night." Jeremy's tone suddenly got very upset and I thought maybe it was me. Well it's time he learned the truth. Everyone is not as they seem. Practically on my hands and knees, I climbed the stairs with great difficulty and met Luke at the top and he grabbed onto my hand.
"I need to say goodbye first." I tried to walk away but he held a tight grip of me.
"Just text her, come on."
"I also need to get my bag. Which also has my car keys." Pulling away, this time Luke didn't try to yank me back and he followed me through to the kitchen to find my bag.
It was still lying on the kitchen counter next to the toaster. Pushing through people, I grabbed the strap and slung it over my right shoulder.
"Mila!" Kim screamed, running towards me. Why does she always scream? "Where are you going?"
"We have to get going home right about now." I told her, feeling I may have put too many words into that sentence.
"No! Please stay!" She said grabbing a random cup, "here have another drink!" As soon as she said that, Luke grabbed my wrist and tugged it slyly.
"Sorry Kim, no can do." She looked at both of us and wiggled her eyebrows.
"There's a bed upstairs, Matías can sleep in Jeremy's room."
"What?" Luke suddenly spoke up.
"I get it. You two want to keep it low key." Kim smirked. "So when did you two start dating."
"We're not." Luke told her firmly.
"Never thought my brothers guitar teacher and my mothers best friends kid would be dating. Small world."
"Kim, we're not. We don't even like each other." I held on to a chair for balance.
"Mhm, okay."
"Anyway, we need to go." I told her. We hugged tightly for a few seconds before she planted a kiss in my messy hair and told me to beat it like she would if I was a  kid.
Dragging me by the wrist, Luke escorted me out the house as he carried my brother. I'm assuming he knew what car was mine because of the drive through run in earlier. Unlocking the car, I opened the back door for him to put my brother in. Gently sitting Matías into the seat without bumping his head, he reached over my brother small frame and clicked in the seat belt. Half asleep, Matías grabbed onto Luke's neck and pulled him down to hug him with his eyes still shut. I giggled as Luke struggled to untangle himself. Sitting myself down in the passenger seat, I waited for Luke to come round the other side. He sat himself down in my usual seat.
"Have you got your belt on?" He asked. I looked at him confused for a second before reaching behind me and pulling it round my body. I struggled massively in the art of clicking in my seat belt. Luke must have gotten tired of waiting because he grabbed it from me and pushed it in quickly before starting up the car.
