Chapter 23

I sat with some girls from Cabin Badger and Mountain Lion. Cassie decided to sit with me at lunch today and was talking cheerfully about something that she found out. I saw Ashyr walked towards our table. After going around and telling people that the fish was f----d by Liam. Ashyr managed to acquire four whole plates of fish that nobody wanted and joined our group. Liam looked highly pissed.
"Cheer up, mate. It's not that bad. In fact, it's even fish-like," Ashyr commented to a very angry looking Liam, squeezing himself in between Kerri and me.
"Ashyr, sit somewhere else!" Kerri snapped, being squished in between Ashyr and some girl from Cabin Badger with personal space issues.
"Can't. Love my ladies," he said, putting his arms around me and Kerri shoulders, pulling me into a crushing hug.
I groaned. "Seriously Ashyr, look. Some other guys are coming here too," I commented as a few guys from other cabins decided that they wanted to abandon their all-guy tables and join ours.
"Shawn!" Ashyr shouted, giving 'Shawn' a high-five as he joined the group, completely ignoring our complaints.
"'Sup," Shawn grinned, doing the little 'head-nod-thing' that guys tend to do.

He plopped himself next to Cassie, who looked him up and down as if to say, "What's this white boy doin' here?" But then she realized that she didn't mind having an incredibly hot caucasian male sitting next to her. I couldn't help but notice myself that Shawn was kind of cute. He had the whole surfer/road rager look. He saw me too, and I looked away. My cheeks reddening a little. He smiled.
I saw Joel approach the table with a few other guys. "How come we suddenly have all these people sitting with us?" Joel commented.
"I'm a chick magnet. They all just flocked to me. I tried to make them leave, but you know women..." Ashyr casually said, biting off a piece of fish.
"Right, that's why Taylor looks pissed as hell right now," Liam pointed.
"I'm not pissed!" I blurted, realizing that my face gave away everything I felt. I could never play poker.
Joel seated himself next to Shawn... a ways across from me. The other guys pulled up another empty bench to sit.
"Mmhmm." Ashyr said, finishing his first plate of fish. "You wan't your fish, Shawn? Liam made it."
"Knock yourself out," Shawn said, pushing his fish to Ashyr. Ashyr turned and grinned at a highly irritated Liam.
"Anyone know when the campfire's at?" Cassie asked.
"I think it's at seven or seven thirty," Kerri replied.

"I hope we make s'mores today," I added. At the mention of s'mores the entire table reverted conversation to s'mores. Clearly everyone loves them.

Just as I was going to say something incredibly life-changing and presidentially important, I suddenly heard a voice from behind me. Okay, so I wasn’t going to say something life-changing. In fact I didn't even realize that someone had walked up until they spoke. I turned and my face grew distasteful.
It was Lindsey. And her Abercrombie-model friends. "Can we sit with you guys?" Her voice was overly sweet and superficial.
"Yea sure," Ashyr said, almost too eagerly, swallowing a piece of fish.

Lindsey sat herself next to Kerri, directly in front of Joel. He acknowledged her with a smile and continued his conversation with Shawn. So... he was trying to be modest. Like he didn't care that she purposely came here and sat with this group because of him.
This is going to be interesting.

The conversation continued within the group. And quite loudly. The guys tended to be raucous and loud. But at least loud and lively was better than awkward silence. I hated those.
I noticed Lindsey leaning a bit, trying to talk to Joel over the loudness. I didn't know what she was saying, but I could hear her crisp and feminine voice. Joel had an almost-smile on, just talking to her and occasionally grinning.
Captivating. What a display. I rolled my eyes.
"Hey Lindsey, you want your fish?" Ashyr casually asked, interrupting her and realizing that she hadn't touched her plate at all.
"Nah, I don't really like fish," she said, grabbing her plate. She outstretched her arm and held the plate out for him. Suddenly, everything went in slow motion.

Ashyr reached forward, his arm in front of me then plate transfer. Then her arm bumping into a my glass of Hawaiian punch, causing it to topple over and fall down...

...all over me. Inside my shirt, outside, my shorts, everywhere. The sticky, red, blotch of Hawaiian punch all over my nice clean clothes. I saw her eyes widen with surprise. Still in slow motion.
Ooh... it's on now.
