8. Carter Madson

Weddings are supposed to be full of excitement and happiness. Everyone is supposed to be happy that their friend is getting married. That is not my case.

I watch as the bride is laughing and dancing around with the groom. I scowl at nothing, just waiting for this day to be over.

I can't help but think that should be me up there, laughing and dancing with my bride, celebrating the fact that I am now happily married.

I still remember the day I found out that she had a boyfriend, and that she was getting married to him.

Flashback:
I was walking up the stairs to my friend, Annabeth's apartment. She lives there with her friend piper, who is a year younger than me and Annabeth.

Today was the day that I got up and asked Annabeth out. I'm pretty sure that she likes me. She always laughs at my jokes and smiles at me when she catches me staring at her.

I can't help but hear her giggling, when I get to the door. I love her laugh. I promise myself that when we get together, that I will make her laugh every single day.

I had my hand raised to knock when I heard it, the other voice. A guy's voice. Is her brother over? Wait, does she have a brother?

I have a bad feeling about this. So I knocked on the door. I heard Annabeth tell the other person that she'll get it. I heard her footsteps come closer to the door.

"Carter hi, come in. There's someone I want you to meet." She smiled at me and opened her door wider, allowing me in.

Two steps into the house and I meet the guy. He has black hair, green eyes, and a muscular body. I don't think he's Annabeth's brother. They don't look anything alike, unless her dad adapted him.

"Hi, I'm Percy." The guy sticks his hand out. I put my hand in his and have it a shake.

"Hi I'm Carter." I saw Annabeth out of the corner if my eye looking, no more like staring at Percy. I can literally see excitement in her eyes. What is she excited for? Is she planning Percy a surprise party?

"Carter meet my boyfriend percy, percy meet my friend Carter." Annabeth told us. I felt my heart break at the words boyfriend and friend. I think I just got friend zoned.

"Oh how long have you been dating?"

"Since my sixteenth birthday." Percy answered looking at Annabeth.

"Actually Carter, Percy proposed last week, so really he's my fiance." (Is that how you spell it?)
Annabeth spoke up. What? No no no, that's not supposed to happen. We were supposed to get married and have a family. I be the doctor and her be the architect.

I stayed quiet for the rest of the night listening to them chat and laugh at the memories they share.
End of flashback:

That was about a year ago. We just graduated from college about a month ago. Now I'm sitting here glaring at the both of them on the dance floor, laughing and just having a good time.

"Hey, are you ok?" I look over at a girl around my age with black hair and chocolate brown eyes.

"Yah, just I had a crush on the bride, and was gonna ask her out, but found out that she was engaged instead." I tell her truthfully.

"I'm sorry. I was kinda like that to. I was best friends with Annabeth and I was supposed to show the new kid around and I really liked him. He was cute, funny, nice, I was planning to ask him out. Till I found out that he was dating my best friend."

"Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Oh and hi I'm Carter Madson."

"Yah, and I'm Madison. Madison Reemers." She stuck her hand out.

"Would you like to dance with me?" I ask her.

"Sure." I take her hand and lead her on to the dance floor. I look over and see Annabeth smiling at the both of us.

That was probably the best day of my life, the day that I meet my bride. Now here we are three years later at our wedding, with Percy and Annabeth with their one year old son Charlie, as guests.

I couldn't be any more happier.
