"Baby, I'm going to go grocery shopping, I'll be back in like an hour or so." I kissed Jack's lips on the way out, not even waiting for him to respond. He pretty much had no choice anyway. I quickly walked down the stairs with nothing but my phone and wallet in my hands. I don't need to drag a purse with me to the hospital, I was in a rush anyway.
I spotted Johnson's car parked a bit further down the road, probably so Jack wouldn't notice his car and ask questions. When I entered the car, I greeted Johnson with a firm hug and put on my seatbelt.
"Excited to find out whether you're pregnant or not?" Johnson carefully drove down the road. I loved how he drove so safely, I'm used to being in the car with Jack, who would speed down empty lanes or get impatient when there's a slow car in front of him.
"Yes, I'm nervous. I know Jack really wants to be a father." I chewed on my bottom lip as we neared the local hospital. Patients and visitors were walking in and out the double, glass doors. I noticed a lady around her twenties, just like me, with a big, round belly. "Oh my god, that's going to be me in nine months if I'm pregnant." I covered my smile with my hand as I pointed to the woman with my other hand. Johnson chuckled as he pulled into an empty parking spot.
I made my way over to Johnson and we both started walking towards the large hospital building. After waiting a couple of minutes in the waiting room, a man called my name and told me to follow him into the room. He called Johnson in as well, probably assuming he's my boyfriend or something.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Gilinsky, you're here for a pregnancy test I see." He stares at a document file and then places it onto his desk to look up at me.
"Yes, that's correct." I nervously spoke, just wanting to get this over with.
"What made you want to take a test?" He asked, typing something on his computer. Is it really necessary for him to ask me questions before doing the test?
"Uh- Well, my husband and I have been trying to get a baby for a while and I have noticed some physical changes, such as nausea, swollen breasts, cravings, but nothing too bad yet." I explained, giving him the information he needed. He nodded his head with a smile attached to his face and asked me to come with him into another room, leaving Johnson behind.
The doctor drew blood from a vein in my arm and told me he'd sent it to the laboratory. It would take at least two days to get the results.
I can't wait two fucking days.
I politely nodded and shook the man's hand as I walked out of his office with Johnson following close behind me.
"Two days, are you kidding me." I groaned, walking out of the hospital. I desperately searched for Johnson's car, until Johnson placed a hand on my lower back and led me to his car in the corner of the parking lot.
"Don't think about it too much, just don't look suspicious or nervous around Jack. You don't want him to assume the wrong stuff." Johnson informed, knowing how much Jack can overthink about the smallest thing.
When I arrived home, I noticed Jack in the kitchen and the smell of chicken wraps filling my nostrils. Jack checked me out for a second, before I froze and realised I'm the stupidest person ever.
"Where are the groceries?" Jack asked, staring at my empty hands. "Good question," I giggled nervously, trying to come up with a lie. "Johnson invited me over to his place before I could get to the supermarket and I forgot to go afterwards." I partly lied - Johnson and I did hung out... At the hospital.
Jack shrugged his shoulders and settled two plates on the table. I seated myself across from Jack and started eating my wraps in silence. Honestly it amazes me how good of a cook Jack has become. I remember when he used to fail at making pancakes.
"Why are you so quiet? Usually you'd ramble on about random stuff." Jack spoke up, focused on his plate. I coughed, "I'm just enjoying the food." I smiled, feeling uncomfortable about lying to Jack. I wish I could tell him I was pregnant, but it wasn't even confirmed yet.
I didn't want to disappoint him a second time.
