Due to the various disagreements he had with his family, Sirius ended up on the street walking around muttering angry things to himself.
One of these days, Sirius befriended a huge black dog that looked like the Grim but was actually really lovable. Whenever Sirius stepped out onto the street after a particularly heated argument, the dog would be on the doorstep waiting for him, comforting him.
That dog was one of his best friends. They walked in the street together and understood each others troubles. The year Sirius became an animagi, the dog stopped visiting.
