OUTSIDE

Matthew suddenly stopped pacing.
He stared at the surgery door.

Something felt wrong.

Mari noticed.
Mari:
“What?”

Matthew shook his head slightly.

Matthew:
“I don’t know.”

Thomas looked at the door too.

The silence felt heavier now.
Then Matthew spoke quietly.

Matthew:
“She’s fighting.”

Enry frowned.

Enry:
“How would you know that?”

Matthew didn’t answer.
He just stared at the door.

Inside the Operating Room

Surgeon:
“Charge again.”

The paddles were pressed to her chest.

Nurse:
“Clear.”

Surgeon:
“Shock.”

Her body jolted again.

For a second—

Nothing.

Then—

Beep.
Beep.
Beep.

The monitor came back.
The doctor exhaled in relief.

Doctor:
“We have a rhythm.”

The surgeon nodded.

Surgeon:
“Stabilize her.”

Outside

The surgery doors finally opened.
Everyone stood immediately.
The surgeon stepped out, removing his gloves.

Matthew spoke first.

Matthew:
“Is she alive?”

The surgeon looked at them.

Surgeon:
“Yes.”

The tension in the hallway finally broke.

Mari exhaled.

Thomas leaned back against the wall.

Enry closed his eyes briefly.

But the surgeon continued.

Surgeon:
“She was very close to dying.”

Matthew’s voice dropped.

Matthew:

“But she didn’t.”
The surgeon shook his head slightly.

Surgeon:
“She’s strong.”

A pause.

Surgeon:
“She’s also very lucky.”

-----------

TWO HOURS LATER

Location: Intensive Care Unit

Isabella lay motionless in the hospital bed.

Machines surrounded her.

Her breathing was slow but steady.

Matthew sat beside the bed.

Enry stood near the window.

Mari and Thomas waited on the couch.

For a long time no one spoke.

Then Matthew leaned closer to her.
His voice was quiet.
