The room was dim, city lights reflecting against the black glass table.
GG sat at the head of it, slowly lighting a cigarette.
Leonardo Ferrari stood across from her.
Neither of them rushed the moment.
GG exhaled smoke.
GG:
“So. The famous Ferrari Don walks into my headquarters at one in the morning.”
Leonardo didn’t sit.
Leonardo:
“You knew I was coming.”
GG:
“I know when anyone important lands in my city.”
Leonardo:
“Then you know why I’m here.”
GG tilted her head slightly.
GG:
“Enlighten me.”
Leonardo:
“I’m looking for someone.”
GG chuckled quietly.
GG:
“You’ll have to be more specific. Half the world is looking for someone.”
Leonardo:
“My sister.”
The cigarette paused in her hand.
GG:
“Angela Isabella Ferrari.”
Leonardo’s eyes hardened.
Leonardo:
“You know the name.”
GG:
“Everyone knew the name once.”
She leaned back.
GG:
“Dead girl. Tragic mafia story. Family destroyed. Revenge, grief, the usual.”
Leonardo didn’t move.
Leonardo:
“She’s not dead.”
GG raised an eyebrow.
GG:
“That’s a bold claim.”
Leonardo:
“It’s a correct one.”
GG tapped ash into the tray.
GG:
“You came to Zagreb to tell me your sister survived her kidnapping.”
Leonardo:
“I came to ask if you’ve seen her.”
GG laughed softly.
GG:
“Ferrari, if I had your missing sister hiding in the Balkans, you wouldn’t be drinking my whiskey. You’d be digging a grave.”
Leonardo stepped closer to the table.
Leonardo:
“I’m not here to threaten you.”
GG:
“Good.”
She leaned forward slightly.
GG:
“Because threatening me inside my own headquarters would be… very stupid.”
Leonardo ignored the comment.
He slid a folder across the table.
GG opened it slowly.
Financial records.
Shipping manifests.
Offshore transfers.
GG flipped through the pages.
Then looked up.
GG:
“You’re accusing my syndicate of laundering money through Italian ports?”
Leonardo:
“No.”
GG:
“Then what am I looking at?”
Leonardo:
“A pattern.”
GG studied the documents again.
