The hospital room was quiet.
Machines beeped softly beside Isabella’s bed.
Sunlight filtered through the curtains.
Isabella was awake now, though pale and weak from the surgery.
Matthew Theodore Sinclair sat beside her, leaning back in the chair like he hadn’t slept all night.
Across the room Hannah paced slowly while Emma Grace leaned against the wall with crossed arms.
Enry stood near the window.
William was speaking quietly with one of the doctors outside.
For a moment no one said anything.
Then Isabella sighed.
Isabella:
“You’re all staring.”
Hannah stopped pacing.
Hannah:
“You died for two minutes.”
Emma Grace nodded.
Grace:
“You’re lucky we didn’t kill you ourselves.”
Isabella frowned.
Isabella:
“For what?”
Grace rolled her eyes.
Grace:
“For almost dying.”
Matthew finally spoke.
His voice was calm but firm.
Matthew:
“They’re right.”
Isabella looked at him.
Isabella:
“You too?”
Matthew leaned forward slightly.
Matthew:
“You were bleeding out in a warehouse.”
Isabella:
“I noticed.”
Grace smirked slightly.
Grace:
“Oh good. At least she noticed.”
Hannah walked closer to the bed.
Hannah:
“You scared us.”
Isabella looked at her.
For a second the hard expression faded.
Isabella:
“I’m sorry.”
Grace pointed at her.
Grace:
“Don’t do that.”
Isabella frowned again.
Isabella:
“Do what?”
Grace shook her head.
Grace:
“Apologize like you almost didn’t survive.”
Matthew looked down at Isabella.
His voice lowered slightly.
Matthew:
“You should rest.”
Isabella raised an eyebrow.
Isabella:
“I just woke up.”
Matthew shrugged.
Matthew:
“You almost died. That gives me temporary authority.”
Grace laughed quietly.
Grace:
“Oh I like him.”
Hannah nodded.
Hannah:
“He’s growing on me.”
Isabella looked at Matthew again.
Isabella:
“You’re still here.”
Matthew answered immediately.
