James POV:
Levi and Aubrey stood waiting for us at the front of the sophomores building. I ran up to Aubrey and put her on my shoulders. Then we all skipped out to Levi's ugly old beat up van.On the drive home we all sang and danced to whatever new pop song was in. Aubrey and Landon knew all the words while Levi and I sort of stumbled along.
It only took 7 minutes to get back to our house which was empty, thank god. We all sat at the table in the living room and did our homework which I had a lot of today. I was the last one sitting at the table when my mom got home.
"James you're still doing homework?" She asked. I nodded. "Well there's shit to do, you can do the rest in class tomorrow" I knew not to protest.
"LEVI!! LANDON!! AUBREY!!" She yelled. Landon and Aubrey came running down.
"Aubrey. Dishes. Landon. Laundry. Both of you cook dinner." Levi still wasn't coming. A minute or so later he waltzed into the kitchen.
My mom looked exasperatedly at Levi. Then began shouting at him. He started shouting back and I stopped paying attention. My phone buzzed and both of them looked at me.
"JAMES WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? TEXTING? IVE BEEN WORKING MY ASS OFF ALL DAY GO DO SOMETHING!" She screamed. The words hit me but I didn't flinch. I silently blamed Levi for pissing her off as I got up. I quickly read the text message.
From: Madison
To: James and Landon
Thanks for the birthday present! You guys are the greatest.I smiled.
"JAMES GIVE ME YOUR PHONE!" My mom yelled snatching it out of my hands. Then she walked back toward the kitchen. Then suddenly she wheeled around and threw the phone at me. It smashed against the wall and broke.
Levi continued yelling at mom and then walked into his bedroom and slammed the door. My mom let out an exasperated sigh then went to her room and didn't come out the rest of the night.
This wasn't the first time I didn't have my phone, but it had never been broken before.
I sat on my bed with the pieces trying to fit them back together when Landon walked in with a plate of spaghetti. She handed it to me and then took the pieces of my phone and attempted to piece it together unsuccessfully.
I ate quickly and then brought the plate to the kitchen and washed it. It was only 8:45pm but everyone was in there rooms silent. When I got back to mine Landon was watching Friends on our little TV.
We sat and watched until we fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up on Landon's bed. She was in mine. Aubrey hadn't come bounding into our room yet so I assumed it was not time to wake up. I glanced at the clock. 7:22am. Shit. We do have to wake up.
I shook Landon awake and she bolted to the bathroom. I heard the shower running and then the blowdryer. I quickly got Aubrey dressed and woke up Levi. My hair was a mess on the sides of my head. I figured I could just go without brushing it.
I jumped into a pair of khaki pants and my hockey jersey. With the big number 23 printed. Landon walked out of the bathroom in leggings and her field hockey jersey with a big 23 printed.
"Matchers" she giggled. We all threw on our backpacks and bolted out the door.
"Late again," my first hour teacher said clicking his tongue and shaking his head. I apologized and handed him my late pass.
"Hey James" Carissa said in a flirtatious voice as I sat down next to her. "Excited for hockey I see" she giggled pointing to my jersey. I smiled at her and then began taking notes.
