TW:

"Nowadays, everyone knows that Maddie Ziegler and Genevieve Turner are the equivalents of a two-for-one special, but just as it happens with everything else, it wasn't always like that. Maddie has always had seniority, and I don't only mean it from an age perspective. Out of all of my friends, she was not the one whom I knew the longest, but she was the one who knew me the best. I'd attribute our closeness to our ageMaddie is twenty-two days older than I am, so every year after her birthday, she'll spam text me and remind me that she's a totally different age than me for three weeks and a day. Besides the age thing, one of the other reasons may be rather obvious, but we like to pretend nothing ever happened. We know it will follow us for the rest of our lives, but we both closed those chapters of our lives that one Monday afternoonActually, Maddie closed hers earlier, but once again, we are a two-for-one special.

The day I met Maddie was around two weeks after the girl was enrolled in the Abby Lee Dance Company, along with her younger sister, even though I was unaware of said younger sister until later on. The day was Thursday, November ninth of two thousand and six, and I was outstandingly bored.

I'd been dropped off around three hours earlier with my two older siblings, both of whom had an afternoon full of classes. I, on the other hand, only had one class to attend, and it seemed like all of my friends' parents had decided to be responsible for once. Since I was part of the new pre-competition team it's basically a team for kids who don't even fall in the mini division , I took my classes separately from other kids my age.

At the time, younger kids started to arrive for their six-thirty classes, and I had been wandering around the studio for about an hour and a half since my classes had finished. I'd opted to sit on the floor against one of the den's doors, ignoring the coldness that crept up my back. My blonde hair which had been neatly braided into a French braid five hours earlier was now messily disheveled with a black tie on its lowest point. I also wore a matching pink top and shorts set, not having bothered to put my street clothes back on since I wasn't going anywhere for at least the next hour and a half. My right knee had been pulled up to my chest while my left leg was straightened out, but since I was just a recently turned four-year-old, I didn't occupy that much space.

The first kid who arrived was Natalie, a five-year-old with honey-brown hair, porcelain-toned skin, and a very energetic personality. She had started to take classes just a few weeks prior, possibly the explanation behind her never-ending energy and enthusiasm.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adored dancing and looked forward to it all the time, but no one could beat Natalie in the passion department.

"Hey, Evie." The girl smiled, skipping over to me. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing." I pouted, raising my head narrowly to look at her. "I'm bored."

Natalie then placed her pink and fuchsia dance bag down in front of her. I looked at it as she zipped it open and started to look for something. "I brought something" With her right hand, she pulled out a coloring book. "My mom dropped me off early today, so I thought I'd bring this. We can color something together."

"Are there any Ariel pictures?"

"There are!"

"Then yes."

Placing the coloring book a turquoise coloring book called "Disney Princess: Dreams Come True Forever" on top of the den's middle bench, I sat on the right as Natalie sat on the left and flipped through the pages vigorously. Once she got to the first "The Little Mermaid" themed one, we chose our crayons and started to color.
