RORY

After my mom asked me repeatedly, I finally asked Mark about when he's staying via text. I thought that I couldn't embarrass myself that much over the phone, and then he can see that I'm perfect and nice and everything that he may want and... Okay. I was fine with messaging him but I was also impatient. I had texted him four hours ago and he still hadn't replied.

I tried to be careful to not show my emotions to my mom but I was doing a pretty bad job doing it. She asked me a few times what my problem was, and when I didn't answer she just stared at me carefully. It was going on for the whole time until I heard the doorbell ring.

"Is Eric coming home today?" I asked mom. My brother didn't come home often and I doubted that he would just randomly show up but we didn't expect anyone to my knowledge. Mom just shrugged and continued reading her book.

I froze as I saw Adam behind the door. "Hello family!" he greeted and pushed past me so he could come in.

"Adam, hi! How are you?" she looked up from her book and smiled at him. I rolled my eyes because of course, the favorite child is not even hers biologically but whatever.

After a little chit-chat, we went up to my room. I raised my eyebrow as I looked at him. He just smirked at me. "Okay, just tell me what do you want," I said eventually. "You're acting weird, stop."

"Your mom invited me over."

"Yes, very funny," I rolled my eyes which made him chuckle.

"No, I'm serious. She said that you seem stressed and don't tell her anything and that I should talk to you," he showed the texts on his phone and he wasn't lying. My mom did text him and asked him if I was in some trouble because "I was acting unusual".

"Oh my god," I mumbled as I lied down on my bed. Adam laughed louder at that.

. . .

"So he didn't answer for a few hours?" Adam asked after I told him my problem.

"Five hours now," I corrected him. "It's whatever I guess. I can't expect him to be near his phone all the time."

"Whoa, that was so mature of you."

"Fuck you."

We went back and forth for a while until I got a notification on my phone. I stared at it, afraid to pick it up.

"Dude stop, you're embarrassing," Adam rolled his eyes and picked up my phone. He read text I got and started laughing which made me more nervous than ever.

"After that reaction, there's no way I'm going to look at it," I said firmly.

"It's fine," he tossed the phone at me. I caught it smoothly and read what was on it.

Rory
Hi! Sorry I was just wondering, which days are you staying exactly?

Mark
who is this?

"I thought you guys exchanged numbers?"

"Well, he gave me his but..." I bit into my lips. "I'm so stupid it's not even funny."

Rory
Sorry, it's Rory
The guy you'll be staying with

"How can you bee an awkward texter?" Adam asked as he read my reply. "You have the option to think before you speak here, why aren't you doing it?"

"Fuck, it's that bad?" I felt my face getting redder.

"It's whatever now I guess," he shrugged. Mark instantly replied.

Mark
oh hi
i'll be staying 1-4th if that's alright with you

Rory
Yeah, it works?
!*
Sorry that wasn't meant to be a question
No question mark needed

Mark
lol it's fine dude
stop apologizing for everything

"This is hilarious."

. . .

MARK

I put my phone away while shaking my head. I found Rory interesting, fascinating even, but sometimes he was... Well not too much but maybe painfully awkward. He was acting like he had the biggest crush on me.

Maybe he did.

I saw how he was looking at me, especially when the topic of his crush came up and how he would get flustered whenever I talked to him. I decided that his maybe-crush would remain unnoticed and ignored. I didn't want the whole me staying over to be uncomfortable for either of us.

He seemed like a good guy. Really. Just not my type. I sighed as I looked out of my window. Well, this will be interesting.
