Chapter 3

I woke up the next morning and everything was a blur, I remembered running to the car to get away as fast as I could, but didn’t remember going to bed. With a grudge, I slipped out of bed and slowly walked into the kitchen. I opened the fridge to find a fresh jug of untouched blood. I started slurping the blood through a straw, when I realized something was off and I’m not talking about my breakfast, it was something else. Being a vampire has perks, you can sense if another of your kind is near; unlike useless humans. But this was bad, really bad. I couldn’t sense any vampires in the house. Toby should be awake, he has to attend the same meeting as me, but he wasn’t anywhere.

I was starting to get panicked, something that doesn’t usually happen. I ran upstairs to my little brother’s room to find his bed made and him missing. Then I realized, we could’ve left without Toby last night, and he is still there with her. I tried to talk to him through the mind link but I couldn’t because he had put up a wall. Without thinking I ran back into the kitchen and grabbed Michael’s car keys. I burst out the front door and bumped into someone. Looking up I saw Michael looking down at me confused.

“Where do you think you’re going with my car?” Michael asked snatching the car keys out of my hand.
“To find Toby because he’s not in the house anywhere and I think we left him at the party yesterday. Michael we have to go find him.” I pleaded reaching out for the keys.
“Na-ah Letty. He is out with some friends,” he replied calmly while holding the keys above his head and out of my reach.

"Oh" I replied relieved while I twisted my hair around my finger, feeling slightly uncomfortable. "But it's still not safe out there. Where is he? I'll go get him"

"Calm down Letty, I’m pretty sure he is safe with a bunch of werewolves and vampires," he said in a sarcastic tone.

"No Michael. No one is safe out there until someone finds 'her'. We aren't even safe standing here, in our own driveway. Michael I need to go get Toby and I don’t need your help. So bye.”  

I stormed off into the woods without a second glance back. I jerked back when I felt something on my arm and kept walking. The same thing grabbed my arm firmer this time. I turned around and slapped it in the face.
"Ouch! Letty what the hell was that for?" Michael asked furiously.

"Sorry Michael I didn't know it was you. Oh my goodness! Are you okay?" I tried soothing him.

"The hell no! You freaking slapped me. Hard." Michael gave me a disbelieving look.

"I know..... I was just.... sorry..." I stuttered unable to form words. I couldn't help it I burst out laughing. He gave me another disbelieving look which just made me laugh louder. I covered my face with hands to try and smother my laughing fit. Once I had finished peeking through my fingers to check what Michael was doing. He was just staring at me looking confused while he held a hand to the spot I had just slapped him. I smiled and pulled my hands away from my face.

“What the hell was that Letty?” he questioned.

“Nothing,” I shrugged. “And since when did you call me Letty, in fact since when did we ever talk to each other outside of meetings or missions?”

He simply shrugged and looked past the trees “I don’t know why we didn’t talk but...”
"I know why. Because you used to bully me when I was changing and I decided it would be better if I had nothing to do with you unless it was important," I interrupted.
"Letty I...” he started.
"Scarlett. It's Scarlett to you," I said in a cold tone.

"Right, sorry. Scarlett I am so sorry for what I did when we were younger. Can we start again and forget the past?" He asked doubtfully.

I sighed “I don't know Michael"

"How can you not know? Let...” I shot him a glare. “Sorry Scarlett. It's a choice I'm letting you make." Michael retorted a little too quickly.

"Michael I'm just not sure that I'm ready to, you know, forget what you did to me," I spoke uneasily.

"Scarlett I only did those things because I was..."

"Wow. Am I interrupting a special moment here or are we all just confessing something?" Toby interrupted from behind me.

"Toby" I yelled turning around to give him a hug.

"Wow. Step back big sis I have a reputation, and hugging a big sister might just ruin it."

"Toby don't be mean she's... in a mood," Michael claimed.

"Toby shut up! Michael you really think you have the right to say that I’m in a mood?" I turned around to see Toby laughing so hard that he had tears dripping off his cheeks. I grunted in frustration then grabbed Toby's hand and pulled him to the edge of the woods. Once there I yelled "Goodbye Michael! See you at the meeting!"

I dragged Toby into the house and slammed the door shut. "What the hell were you thinking Tobias?"

"Wow. You really are in a mood."

"Toby, shut up! Why did you leave the house without telling me?" I was furious. Why can't anyone trust me? First Michael and now my own brother doesn’t trust me.

"I'm sorry sis. I just wanted some fresh air and you were still asleep so I left thinking I could make it back before you woke up." He replied quite proudly.

"Toby,” I groaned. “Toby please don't do that again. Make sure you tell me where you are, all the time. Okay?"

“Sis, if you haven’t noticed I am also a vampire and can take care of myself as well as you could.”

"Tobs! I know you can take care of yourself normally but it's different now. You should know how much damage 'she' could do."

"Stop talking about 'her'. Not everything has to be about her Scarlet." Toby stormed up the stairs and slammed his bedroom door behind him. I sighed and grabbed my keys seeing how Toby most likely wasn't going to come to the meeting. After all he didn't have to the only people who the meeting was compulsory for was Michael, Isaac and me. I walked out the door with a huff, not looking forward to what was ahead.
