1 9 9 3To any individual outside of The Wizarding World, the Leaky Cauldron resembled any normal pub in London, but in reality, it was a beloved treasure to both Wizards and Witches. It didn't appear like much; it had the standard wooden furniture expected to be found in any establishment as such, old black and white photos hung high on the walls, and an abundance of character. With a passage from the Muggle world to Diagon Alley, it was difficult to get a room booked in the busy inn. Especially during holidays such as Christmas, where families came together and visited one another to celebrate the occasion.
The Weasley family had visited the Leaky Cauldron a few times, while passing through to get their school supplies or to stop for a spot of lunch. However, they had never been able to stay in the building due to the size of the family. Once Arthur has been informed by Minister Fudge that his children's friend, Harry, had gotten into some trouble, which brought him to staying in the inn until they returned to school, the family had been able to pull some strings and get enough rooms to join him. Evelyn was happy to share a room with Ginny and Hermione. Even if she had to share with the her twin brothers, she would have done so to see Harry.
Evelyn and Ron had befriended Harry Potter on the first day of their first year at Hogwarts. After Molly had taught Harry how to make his way onto the platform for the Hogwarts Express, the shy siblings decided to take a step out of their comfort zones and ask to sit with the boy who lived. It wasn't until after they had exchanged introductions, that they realised that the boy across from them was the same infamous boy from the stories they had heard growing up.
In the few short years since then, they had been through a great deal together. Their group of three turned into a group of four after they met Hermione Granger, a muggle girl turned genius witch. All were best friends, and each had a special relationship with one another. Evelyn and Harry were especially close, which had been demonstrated by Harry's heroic actions when he battled the Basilisk to save her life from Tom Riddle, otherwise known as Lord Voldemort.
She had missed seeing Harry since the end of their second year. She had only been able to send a few letters with him due to his Aunt and Uncle that disapproved of anything to do with the Wizarding World, especially fellow witches and wizards like herself and her family. Ron and herself had even tried to call on one occasion, which was exciting for them as they were able to use a muggle telephone and they could speak to their friend. Instead of hearing Harry's voice, they spoke to his Uncle who warned them never to call again. Afterwards, they realised that they had gotten their friend into trouble, making them feel incredibly guilty. They warned Hermione not to call Harry after that incident.
The knowledge that he was just upstairs excited Evelyn, her impatience was getting the better of her as it began to approach lunch time. However, her mother had told her to leave Harry alone and let the boy come down in his own time. Her foot continued to tap on the floor as her knee bounced under the wooden dining table. Although she was anxious to see her best friend again after many months, a smile was still present on her face as she watched her brother and other best friend argue.
"I'm warning you, Hermione. Keep that beast away from Scabbers, or I'll turn it into a tea cozy!" Ron threatened as he held his pet rat close to his chest. Evelyn had never been a fan of the rodent, Scabbers. He used to be Percy's pet, but after biting her several times unprovoked, she avoided the small creature at all costs. This habit became more difficult when Percy passed Scabbers onto Ron as she spent more time with Ron than anyone else in her family given that they were the same age.
