D e v i l D o gThe silence surrounding the group was broken abruptly as Ron took a sharp intake of air. The gasp caused the other to look over with urgency just as he dropped his pet rat, who hit the grass with a soft thud before bolting across the ground.
"He bit me," Ron muttered in shock before chasing after the rat. "Scabbers!"
The teenagers called out for their friend as they chased after him, but Ron had managed to get a head start making it difficult for them to catch up. Evelyn continued to call for her brother once she realised the direction he was unknowingly heading in, but her shouts fell on deaf ears as he was too occupied calling for his pet.
When they made it to the Whomping Willow, they found Ron sat on the grass with Scabbers in his lap having finally caught the rodent. The rat continued to squeak and squirm as he struggled to get away from his owner.
"Harry," Hermione started as she began to catch her breath, "You do realize what tree this is?"
Judging from the boy's expression, Evelyn could only assume that Harry was being reminded of an incident that involved the Whomping Willow and her father's car from their Second Year. "That's not good. Ron, run!" He yelled panickily.
Ron looked up at them upon hearing Harry's voice. His expression changed quickly to one of terror as he pointed a shaking finger towards them.
"Harry, Eve, Hermione! Run! It's the Grim!"
The trio whirled around as the sound of snarling emitted from behind them. They were greeted by the sight of a large dog, with ragged black fur and teeth-bared. Evelyn froze momentarily, horror washing over her as the creature charged them. Instinctively, she grabbed Hermione, who let out a yelp as she dragged her to the ground with her. Harry landed beside them as he ducked as well.
The dog leaped directly over their heads, its paws thudding loudly as it landed and made its way towards Ron. The devilish dog took a hold of Ron's ankle, dragging him towards the base of the Whomping Willow. Ron screamed in terror as the three teenagers scrambled to their feet and rushed to help him.
Harry risked taking a dive to reach for Ron's hand, but the dog was stronger and dragged him away before Harry had the chance. They watched helplessly as Ron and the dog disappeared into a darkened tunnel which had been hidden amongst the bark of the Whomping Willow. His screams faded as they disappeared further into the depth.
"Ron!" Evelyn cried out.
She stumbled to her feet, forgetting about the others as she prepared to climb down after her brother. Hermione helped Harry to her feet but they didn't have much time to stand as one of the thick branches of he tree swept them off their feet. They were sent several meters away, separating them from the brunette.
Evelyn's hands were already gripping the bark of the tree, planning what way to climb down safely until she heard the sound of the impact of their fall. Looking over her shoulder, she found both on the ground clutching their stomachs.
"Are you both okay?"
Whether she got a response or not, she wasn't sure. Anything that Harry and Hermione said was inaudible as it was replaced by the croaking, roaring sound of the Whomping Willow coming to life. When Evelyn looked up, her eyes widened upon seeing that every branch was preparing to strike at whoever had disturbed it. Harry and Hermione mirrored the same concerned expression as their brunette friend.
