B u c k b e a kIt wasn't until after Lunch that the group of friends were scheduled for their first class of Care of Magical Creatures with Hagrid. Thankfully, the weather was on their side with only a few grey clouds scattered across the sky. When Evelyn, Hermione, Harry and Ron arrived at Hagrid's hut as instructed, they spotted their half-giant friend stood outside the doorway, surrounded by fellow students.
"That's it. Come on now, come closer. Less talking, if you don't mind. I got a real treat for you today. A great lesson. So follow me!"
The Slytherins and Gryffindors shared this class. Evelyn was both disappointed and grateful to this news. On the one hand, she would have to listen to the few rude Slytherin students whisper insults about Harry and Hagrid. While on the other hand, she could use the end of the class to grab the student she had an unusual friendship with. Draco wouldn't be able to hide from her for much longer.
The students followed Hagrid's deeper through the trees and into a bright clearing, their arms held the monstrous books assigned for Care of Magical Creatures. The new Professor called over his shoulder to them with an excited grin, "Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there, and open your books to page forty-nine."
"Exactly how do we do that?" Draco called in annoyance from behind the group of friends.
"Just stroke the spine, of course."
After helping Neville pry his robes from his textbook's clutch, the brunette returned to her friends, dropping her school bag beside Hermione's as the group waited for Hagrid's to return. Evelyn tucked the dark locks away as she concentrated on stroking the feisty book. A prideful smile appeared in the form of a curl to her lips as the creature made purring noises before obeying her wish and letting her open the pages.
"I think they're funny," Hermione told her friends, but was overheard by some nearby.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny," Draco mocked sarcastically. "Really witty, giving us books that try and rip our hand off! God, this place has gone to the dogs. Wait until Father hears Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes," he spat additionally.
Evelyn rolled her eyes with an audible angry groan, before snapping her head to face him. Just as she was ready to tell him where he and his Father could go, Harry beat her to it with an insult that was a bit poor in her opinion.
"Shut up, Malfoy."
"Ohhh," the Slytherins howled in faux fear. Draco smirked at Harry before handing Crabbe his bag and taking a step towards the boy. He marched up to them in a cocky swagger before faltering in his step as he looked behind them suddenly in fear.
"Dementor! Dementor!" Draco screeched and jumped away from the Gryffindors, all of who spun around in the direction he was pointing at only to realise that there was nothing there. Even Evelyn had fallen off the trick, only increasing the desire to punch the smug grin right off his face. As the Gryffindor students realised their error, the Slytherin students' laughter became. As the laughter taunted them, Draco's group pulled the hoods of their robes up over their head to use to imitate the Dementors dark figures.
The unamused students glared at them as they hid their embarrassment. Evelyn decided to be the bigger person in the situation, and push her urges to carry on with some actions that would no doubt bring her a weeks worth of detention. Stepping forward, she gripped Harry's arm and pulled him away from Draco to put distance between the enemies.
