Emma's POV
"You can't?" His voice was filled with hurt and disappointment.Biting my lip, I shook my head.
"Why was I so stupid to think you would?" His voice cracked at the end of the sentence.
"It's not that-"
"Yes, it is. Throughout our whole friendship, I knew that you would never go for a guy like me! And then I kissed you! I wasn't supposed to be your first kiss, was I?"
"Ashton! Listen to me! My paren-"
"And your friends, teachers, the guy that likes you. And you, Emma. You all think I'm some low life."
"No I don't!" I screamed at him. Wow, I never meant for this to be so dramatic.
"Yes you do, Emma! I should have never thought that you could feel that way about me! I gotta go."
Before he could walk off, I grabbed his arm.
He yanked it away, which made me lose my balance and start to fall, but he caught me.
His eyes were full of concern and worry as they looked into mine but coldly, broke away as he steadied me and let go.
"Bye, Emma." He mumbled, running off.
I felt a tear run down my cheek and quickly wiped it off. No. This wasn't supposed to end like this.
We were supposed to remain friends and maybe even see if we would be able to work..but no. I ruined it.
*******
"Kenzie, what am I going to do?" I cried to my best friend as soon as she answered her door."What are you talking about?" She asked, letting me in.
"Ashton hates me!"
"Why?"
"Because I told him that I couldn't be his girlfriend an-"
"Wait. You told him that you weren't going to be his girlfriend?"
"Yeah and it hurt him and he started saying that I felt about him the same way everyone else did! He said that I thought he was a low life!"
"Emma, don't worry about it. He's been that way towards me a billion times when I tell him something that's disappointing. He's going to get over it."
"No, he's not! I lost my balance when I was trying to stop him from leaving, and when he helped me, his eyes went from being filled with worry to hate!"
"Emma, chill. He doesn't hate you."
"Of course he does! Kenzie, I really like him. But-"
"Everyone is pressuring you about what they think would happen if you did?" She finished the sentence calmly like she understand exactly what I was talking about.
"Yes. I thought it was just my parents, but everyone is starting to tell me that if I get in a relationship with him, I won't do as good in school, or I'll get a bad reputation, and I didn't want to hear it anymore. I don't want to keep getting those same stares. But I like him so much. Like, I really like him."
"Then tell him."
"I can't. I've called him 5 times since the argument, and sent him around 10 text messages."
"Ever heard of a house visit?"
"No, I can't go to his house. What good would that do?"
"He may appreciate that you took the time to go."
"All he'll do is slam the door on my face."
"You at least have to try."
"Okay. I'll try. Thanks, Kenzie."
"No problem. Now go get your man back!"
"Friend, I have to see if it will work out maybe in the future."
She let out an annoyed sigh. "Whatever."
Grabbing my car keys, I walked out the door after giving her a hug. "Thanks again."
When I arrived to his house which wasn't very far away, I knocked on the door.
When it was opened, I saw a very upset looking Ashton. He had bags under his red eyes where he'd been crying and tear stained cheeks.
"What do you want, Emma?"
"To talk to you."
"You can talk all you want, but I'm not listening."
"Please."
Rolling his eyes, he nodded sitting on the bench swing thing on the porch. "What?"
"I don't want you to hate me, Ashton."
"Who said that I hated you?"
"Your face." I said in a 'duh' tone.
"I don't hate you. I hate myself."
"Why do you hate yourself?"
"Because I fooled myself into believing that you could like me back."
"Ashton, I do like you back. But do you know how much pressure I'm under? I wasn't expecting you to throw away our friendship."
"Look, now that you know how much I like you, we can't be friends. I don't know how I'll be able to be around you now. It'll be weird for me."
"Ashton-"
"You should go."
"Listen-"
Without any warning, he had cupped my face and pressed his lips against mine.
"I'm sorry." He muttered once he had pulled back a second later. "See I'll be tempted to do that. Bye, Emma."
"You're acting like a child." I said after getting over the little surprise kiss.
"You're right, Emma. I am aren't I?Well maybe it's because I was rejected by the girl that I'm in love with."
I had lost my words, I was shocked. I thought maybe it was just a crush he had on me or something. But it was something more.
