Song of the chapter:
Beside You by 5 Seconds of Summer
--------
When we got home from the restaurant, my parents said that they had to head back home, and we said our tearful goodbyes. After they left, I headed back down to my room, and put on some fleecy blue pajama bottoms, and a black tanktop. I undid my braided hair and let my waves fall around my face.
Then I grabbed my iPhone and slid into bed. That day had been long and I was exhausted. I opened my text messages and looked at Ashton's messages.
*I'm not going to give up. I'll do whatever it takes to win you back.*
I see the way he looks at you. My mother's words went through my head. You need to make sure you hold onto him before he drifts away. Before he finds somebody else.
I sighed and turned off my phone, setting it on my bedside table.
I laid my head down on my pillow and closed my eyes.
He loves you, you know.
Hold onto him.
Before he finds somebody else.
"Dammit!" I sat up and yelled. Clearly, I needed to do something about this.
I got up out of bed and took a few deep breaths. I could not believe I was doing this.
I opened my door and went to his door. I rapped on the door lightly.
There was no sounds from the other side of the door. I started to walk away. Maybe this was for the best. Suddenly his door opened.
"Hazel?" He said in a raspy voice. I had woken him up.
I turned and looked at him. He stood in his door frame, shirtless and wearing bright red shorts. "Ashton." I whispered back.
"What're you doing?" He sounded confused and a bit surprised that I had knocked on his door.
"I just--I'm sorry, Ashton. I don't want things to--"
"Hazel, come here." He said while I was talking.
I stopped talking. "What?"
"Come here."
I walked toward him slowly, and once I was a foot away he grabbed my arm and pulled me in for a hug. I raised my arms and wrappped them around him tightly, burying my face in his chest. Tears started welling up in my eyes. I tried to hold them back but they just began to/flow.
"I'm sorry, Ashton," my voice was muffled in his chest.
"Shh, Hazel, it's not your fault, it's mine. Please don't blame yourself." He set his chin on the top of my head lightly, and rubbed his thumb back and forth on my back. "Come in my room."
