"Before we start," Harry said. "I need to say something. Jasi, I am really, really sorry."
He looked at her honestly, his features anxious. She turned away, circling her arms around Louis' neck to avoid looking at Harry.
"I'm sorry," he whispered again, sitting down.
"Second order of business – school. Do not yell, do not run away, do not swear," Niall began. "We are going to have a serious mature discussion about it, with no tears and no childish behaviour. Clear?"
Everyone nodded slowly, although Jasi and Ali didn't seem to want to.
"First of all, what grade are you all up to?"
"Finished ninth," Jeni volunteered immediately. "Jasi started it, and Lic has finished seventh."
"So we need grade eight, nine and ten?"
At Jeni's nod, the discussion continued.
"I'm not going to school," Jasi whispered a little later. These were her first words in the discussion and they were muffled by Louis' neck, where she was still hugging him.
"Sit up and tell us that one again," Louis asked. He unhooked her arms from his neck and sat her on his knee, where she repeated herself.
"I'm not going to school."
Zayn opened his mouth but Niall put a hand over his mouth to silence him as they all thought.
"Why not?" Niall asked.
"Because I'm not."
"You need to give us real reasons," Niall told her.
"I hate school."
"Same," Alicia chipped in.
"Pretty much," Jeni confirmed.
"Girls," Liam scolded, silencing them.
The attention was focused on Jasmine and she blushed slightly.
One question later, she had had enough. Jumping up, she tried to run, but tripped and fell hard. She didn't move until Zayn crouched beside her.
"Do you not learn? I've already had to give you a few swats for running off," he muttered. He helped her stand up before directing her to the couch, where he stood beside her with a hand on her shoulder.
"I don't want to talk," she muttered. When Niall told her to speak up so he could hear, she jumped back to her feet. As Zayn tried to force her back into a sitting position she began yelling. "I said I don't want to fucking talk to you! You don't get it and you never will! I'm not going to school – I would rather kill myself!"
"That will not be necessary," Niall said. "Can you go up to your bedroom now, please? Don't slam anything, just take five."
Shrugging Zayn's hand off, she stalked away, but walked up the stairs gently instead of stomping when she thought about Niall.
The discussion continued without her, until Harry brought up a valid point.
"We need to get you checked out by the doctor," he said.
"No," Alicia replied.
"I would really rather not," Jeni agreed.
"Girls," Liam said.
"Nope nope nope," Alicia began chanting. She drowned him out, blocking her eyes with her hand sand closing her eyes. "Nope nope nope."
Jeni watched cautiously, figuring out what to do. She knew something that the boys didn't, and that reason alone would prevent her from letting a doctor examine her. Her innate distrust of authority didn't help increase her faith in doctors. Plus, she reasoned. If they inspect us, we're actually going to have to go to school. Which I would really rather not do. Light glinted off her blue eyes as she flicked them between Liam and Alicia, who were glowering and freaking out respectively.
