*Katie's POV.*
"So your saying there is no way out of Chesters Mill." Junior says. "As far as I know. Looks like we're going to be stuck in here a while." I say.
"Um.. you haven't seen Angie around have you?" He asks. I figured he would ask about her at some point.
"She was headed to the diner earlier," I say. "But after this thing appeared, I don't know where she went." He just nods.
"Thanks, uh I'm gonna go find her." He says and drives away without another word. Maybe I shouldn't have told him I saw Angie. I say to myself. She was kinda jumpy this morning. But about Junior? I can't see why. But then again, I may not know him as well as I used to.
I decide to walk back too Joe's incase anything else goes wrong.
I knock on the door. Angie answers it. "Hart, what are you doing here?" "Oh, hey Angie. I just came to see if Joe was OK after.." I trailed off.
"After what?" She asks. "Joe said there's like this big fence around us." She says. "Yeah, Joe and I saw it come down."
"OK, um come on in," She says.
Joe is in the kitchen. "Katie your back and your alright." He says looking relieved. "Yeah, but I'm afraid I can't stay long. I just came to make sure you were OK here." I say."Oh and Angie, Junior is looking for you." I say. She just nods.
"I thought you didn't talk to Junior anymore." Joe says. "I ran into him a little while ago. And it was the most awkward conversation I have ever had." I explain."I'll see you guys later," I say before leaving. I gotta find that Barbie guy. He knows something. I can feel it.
A few hours later.
It's practically night fall and I can't find Barbie anywhere so I decide to just walk around for a little while."Hey," I turn around to see a red haired girl walk up me. "Hey," I say back. I don't know what it is but something about the girl looks familiar.
"Your not from around here are you?" I ask and she shakes her head. "How'd you guess?" She asks. "I know everyone around here, and I don't think I've seen you around here before." I respond. "You ever been to L.A.?" She asks.
"Loads of times, my grandparents live there." I say.
"Wait, is your last name Hart by any chance?" She asks."Yeah, I'm Katie." I say. But then I get a good look at the girl and realize I do know her.
"Wait a minute, Norrie?" I ask she smiles and nods. "Oh my gosh it's been so long," I say.
"I know, last time we saw each other we were like six," She says. When I was six me and my mom lived with my grandparents in L.A. for a year. I met this girl my age and we became best friends. But then me and my mom moved back to Chesters Mill and I haven't seen her since. This is the last place I expected to see Norrie Calvert - Hill.
"So what are you doing in Chesters Mill?" I ask.
"Oh, I was headed to this... camp and kind of got stuck here." She says. "Oh," I say."How are your moms?" I ask.
"Annoying," She says obviously not wanting to elaborate."What about you? How's your mom?" She asks. I don't like talking about my mom but I knew it was going to come up eventually. "She... died, when I was nine," I say. "Oh god, Katie I'm so sorry." She says sincerely.
"Thanks," I mutter. "So.. where ya' headed?" I ask. "A diner, there having a town meeting there. Um I can't exactly remember what it was called." She says. "I know where it is." I say and we walk to the Sweetbriar. At the Sweetbriar Rose.
"Hey mom," Norrie calls as we walk in. "Norrie where have you been?" One of her mom's asked worriedly. "I'm fine I just went to check the place out." Norrie responds. "Your not fine, you had a seizure for god sakes!" She says.
"Wait, you had a seizure?" I ask. Norrie shrugs. "Who's this?" Her mom asks gesturing to me.
"I assume you remember my friend Katie from when I was six?" Norrie asks her mom.
"Oh my, Katie Hart? It's been far to long." She says. "It's good to see you Ms. Hill." I say. "Please call me Carolyn," She says. I nod and we go to sit down.
"Alice," Carolyn waves her partner over. "Alice you remember Norrie's old friend Katie from when she was little don't you?" I smile at Alice.
"Of course. Katie it's good to see you after so long. I forgot you and your mom lived here. How is she?" I frown. But I guess I can expect people to ask.
"She passed away a few years ago." I say. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." She says. I nod. "Yeah, I live with my aunt now, but she got caught outside this thing I say. Carolyn starts to say something but everyone goes silent when sheriff Duke Perkins starts talking.
"I'm afraid I have some hard news, some folks are still unaccounted for but it looks like Chesters Mill... lost twelve of our own today. " He says.
The crowd beings to panic.
"Duke, what the hell is going on?" Rose asks."Isn't it obvious?" Carolyn asks standing up. "We're under attack."
"Now nobody knows a damn thing so let's not start spreading any rumors." Duke says trying to keep everyone calm.
"Please our daughter is sick. We need to get her to a real doctor. Even if they can't knock that wall down, they can still air lift her out of here." Alice says.
"Well, I don't know but if those eggheads can drop a car on Mars they can sure as hell figure this out." Duke responds.
Everyone starts talking again. If the whole town starts to panic I don't know how long Duke will be able to keep it under control.
"Now when everyone goes home tonight, I want you to check on your neighbors. And if anybody needs anything you know where to find me." Duke says before leaving with Linda.
Everyone begins talking again but I just zone out. My mom said my visions would come in handy some day. Was this what she meant? And how am I the only one who heard that screaming? I don't know I just remain lost in my thoughts for a bit.
After a while I'm brought out of my trance by Norrie. "You OK?" She asks. "Uh.. yeah, yeah I'm fine." I say. "I'm gonna head home." I say to her. "Alright, see you around Katie," She says.
"See you Nor," I say before walking out the door.I'm actually not in the mood to go home yet so I just walk around for a bit. Then all of the sudden I hear a familiar voice yelling. "Help! Someone help!" I run toward the yelling. I see Linda crouched over someone yelling.
"Linda!" I call as I run up to her.
"What happened?" I ask. "Oh my god. Is that Duke?" She nods tears in her eyes. "Linda is he..?" She starts to cry. But trys to remain strong. Then the another cop car pulls up and deputys Freddy Denton and Paul Randolph get out."Linda!" Freddy call as he and Randolph run up to us.
"What happened?" Freddy asks.
"Who shot Duke?" Randolph asks. "No shot Duke Paul, calm down." Linda says."He just got close to this thing and his pacemaker exploded." Linda says.
"Ow," Freddy touches it and it shocks him. "If this thing blows up mechanical things then why didn't you watch explode?" Randolph asks. "It's a windup. It must only affect things with battery's." I say.
"Either way just check the roadblocks and make sure nobody gets near this thing." Linda says.
"Well who's in charge now?" Randolph asks. "Your a cop, do your job." Linda says. "Oh and could you give Katie a ride home too?" She asks. I don't want a ride from Randolph. I never really liked him.
"No it's fine I'll walk." I say.
"I'm so sorry for your loss Linda I say and walk away sadly. I was never very good with law enforcement, but I always liked Duke. And now he was gone.
I can't believe he's gone. Then I got to thinking about what Paul said. Who's in charge? Well since Duke is dead we will need a new sheriff. But even then the councilman will most likely make all the decisions because we're in the middle of a crisis. So that means Big Jim is in charge. Oh great.Hope you enjoyed the chapter. Bye bye domaniacs!
