*Katie's POV.*
I pass Big Jim, and he looks pissed.
"Hey Jim, is everything okay?" I ask. "No, actually it's not Katie." He says. "Paul Randolph escaped, last night." He tells me. "I putting together a serch party to find him." He says. "Oh, well maybe I can help," I suggest."That's brave of you but, there is no way I'm letting a 17 year old girl go after a dangerous fugitive," he says.
"Jim, you know he didn't actually mean to shoot Freddy. He's just scared, like everyone else. I don't think we need a full blown manhunt."
"Well, you don't know Randolph like I do." He says. "So, just go home and stay there." "Fine," I say. And continue on my way.
But Jim should know by now, I don't really follow orders that well. Randolph needs to be brought to justice, but I know Big Jim, he'll shoot Randolph before we can bring him in.
Too many Millers have died already, it may be reckless but I gotta try and find Paul before the town does.
I'll check the Blackridge woods first. He likes to hunt there. I'm in luck, I see his squad car abandoned by on the side of the road. I walk into to woods, there are footprints heading in one direction, but they just stop out of nowhere. OK Katie think. Paul was in the military before so he would be smarter then to leave a trail. I walk back onto the road and on the opposite side some branches are snapped. I look back at the footprints.
"Huh, fake trail," I say aloud. "Not bad Randolph, not bad." I say and walk through the trees where the broken branches are.
I'm barely through the tree line when I hear a car. Shit. I think. It's probably Big Jim. I quickly run threw the woods so they don't see me.
I stop at a small clearing about half way throughthe woods. I can't run anymore.
"Don't move!" I hear a shaky voice says from behind me.
Oh great, I think as I feel a gun against my back."Turn around," he says. I do so.
"Hart? What the hell are you doing out here?" I asks raising his gun higher.
"Relax Paul, I'm not armed. Unlike you." I say. Really Jim. You couldn't have mentioned he had a rifle? I say in my head. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
"What ever, let's go." He says.
We walk for a little while.
"Look Paul, you don't have to like me but-""Shut up keep moving," he says cutting me off. But I keep talking.
"I-I know you didn't mean to shoot Freddy," I stutter. "I know that it was the domes falt." I say trying to see his side of the story.
"So what? The town sends a little girl 'cause they think I'll let my gard down? Ha! Like hell I will." He says. I try to remain calm. Kind of hard when a rogue deputy has a rifle on you.
"No one sent me Randolph. I came on my own." I explain.
He stops walking and I no longer feel the gun on me. Now is my chance! I think. If I can distract him for just a second maybe I can run and escape."Then why are you here?" He asks. "Because I thought maybe I could make you see reason and get you to turn yourself in so that nobody else gets hurt." I say.
"It's too late for that," he says. "And don't try to run." He adds.
It's silent for a moment. Then I here a twig snap. It's probably Jim. I think.
One of the guys with Jim fires, barley missing us. Randolph grabs my arm a we run behind a large tree.
I'm able to catch a glimpse of the guys shooting at us.
Big Jim, Ollie Dinsmore, Roger Lopez and... Barbie!"Don't shoot! I've got a hostage!"
He yells.Oh Perfect.
