"So you've been doing this?" Xavier said to me as he held up a single Ash of Evil. I need it... I wanted to grab it from his hand and swallow it, the urge was unbearable. I resisted it. There's something wrong. He wasn't scared. He didn't have that same look as Edna and Mia had. He's not scared. The reddish glow of the fire revealed his face among the darkness. The same endearing wasn't there. Neither was the possessive one. I didn't know what he was feeling.

"I need it, Xavier. I need it." I said. Then Xavier looked around. I looked at where he looked. The chemicals, the ashes of evil. I looked at Xavier. He closed his eyes. "It's bad. I know it is. But can you blame me? Can you blame me for taking something that gives me so much happiness?"

"No," He opened his eyes. That look in his eyes. Those do not belong to the boy I love, do they? What was he thinking? Another feeling rushed through me. It was not the pleasant rush or bliss. It's something different. Something like... fear. "It's not." He started walking towards me. "It's not bad at all."

I sighed with relief. He understood! He knew my needs. Maybe... he loves me? "I just wished you could have told me from the start. I know about the whole thing."

I stiffened. "You knew?" Xavier was standing over me. Looking down at me. He smiled at me. I smiled too. He nodded.

"Do you love me?" I asked him. Xavier nodded. "If you love me, you want me to be happy right?"

"Of course, but do you love me?" Xavier asked. Do I? I thought of all the times I've been with him, that day during the lecture when he smiled at me. The times we were with each other's arms. I cherished those moments, I miss them. I nodded.

Then Xavier put his hands on my shoulder, looking into my eyes. He pushed. I stared at his face. He was smiling, the same smile I gave to Edna and Mia. I gasped. Before I knew it, I was surrounded by the beautiful but yet devilish flames.

As she burned, Xavier stood superior. He won. He put one of the Ashes of Evil in his mouth and swallowed. The same trill, the same bliss his lover had ran through him. He understood. He won the happiness he'd always wanted. Ashley was selfish, she didn't want to share. He had love her, sworn to protect her, to kill those who went too near her. Yet she didn't trust him, but she loved him. No- love him. They were supposed to be partners. Friends. A couple. They weren't supposed to keep secrets from each other. He did love her. He does. Not that it mattered.

He looked at the dying fire and the blackened ashes. Then he said "Thank you for making me happy Ashley. Thank you."
