Alex:

I pounded my way up the stairs, not looking back. I didn't even wait for the elevator, afraid that whatever it was might catch up on me. My breaths ragged, I finally reached the suite me and Scott were sharing. My hands trembling, I fumbled for the access card inside my pocket, before the door suddenly swung open.

Scott was standing in front of me, hair tousled- clearly, he had just awoken. He had his jeans on, but the white shirt he was wearing was the other way round, as if he was in a hurry to get dressed. When he saw me, he exhaled a sigh of relief, pulling me tightly into a hug.

"Alex! Thank god, I was wonder-"

I shook my head frantically, and untangled myself from his embrace. Pushing him into our suite, I immediately shut the door behind us and bolted it.

"Alex, what's wrong?"

I was still breathing heavily, but I didn't sit down. We had to move fast, something was clearly spying on us!

"Scott, we have to go back," I garbled, already throwing my strewn-out clothes into my luggage.

"What? Why?"

I didn't need to look at Scott's face to know he was beyond bewildered.

"Scott, I didn't tell you this, 'coz I thought I was imagining... but, last night, I swear I saw something in the bushes!"

"Huh? You, you do realize that it was quite dark remember? Your eyes could have played tricks on you! Plus, you know, we were... Hang on, Alex," Scott walked over to me and turned me around so he could see me. My arms were full with our toiletries, so I was somewhat irritated with his questions. Honestly, couldn't he see that this was important?

Scott looked nervous as he licked his lips.

"You... Look, Alex, be honest with me. This has nothing to do with... you know... last night, has it? 'Coz, you know... if it has, you... you can just tell me... you know?"

I exhaled a frustrated sigh, annoyed.

"Honestly, Scott, do you really think I'm that sort of girl who freaks out easily? Will you, please, let me finish my story, first?" I kicked Scott's t-shirt that he was wearing yesterday to his feet, and threw the toiletries into his bag. "But while I do it, could you at least help me out here?"

Scott stared at me open mouthed for a second, but complied, not asking questions.

"Okay, so I went for a jog this morning, alone."

Scott looked shocked, and opened his mouth, but I beat him to it.

"Anyway, whilst running through a stretch of trees, I felt... uneasy." I grabbed a towel, lying on the floor. "So I used my powers to blow away the mist and the clouds, so I could see better. Then, I heard a thought. Someone was there, in the area, watching me."

Scott had tensed, and stood still in front of me, a pillow in his arms.

"I was scared, so I started shooting lasers, and I even pulled a metal bar, just in case I needed to defend myself." I sat on my luggage bag and zipped it up hastily. "And all along, I could hear that person's thoughts. He, or she was clearly confused by my many abilities, Scott... And the worst part is, even though I couldn't see that person, I know it was a mutant, Scott. How else could he or she have flitted in between the trees without me seeing? And the bushes yesterday, and.. I think he or she was even in our bedroom today! I mean, normal people won't be that interested in us, Scott!"

Scott had paled, and, he suddenly moved quickly, as if coming out of a trance. In two short strides, he had made his way across the room to where our suitcases were standing. He zipped his bag up, nearly damaging the zipper along the way, and then took both the suitcases in his hands.

"Alex, we have to leave, now. I... I think the other side have found you, Alex. This is not good... especially... they saw your powers... " His face was grave, and although he appeared to be calm, I could see that he had his jaw clenched. Suddenly, though, he dropped the suitcases, and pulled me into his arms, again. He hugged me tightly, and kissed the top of my head, as he had done to me many, many times before.

This time, though, it felt as if he was saying something else.

"I'm sorry, Alex. I should have never brought you out of the school compounds... If anything does happen to you..."

His voice trailed away, and I could feel his muscles tense. Suddenly, he pulled away, and tilted my chin up, giving me a quick peck on the lips.

"Let's leave, Alex."

His grave demeanor had returned, and I watched him carrying our suitcases out of the room, his back erect, shirt still upside down, before running over to join him.

A/N: The end is approaching... I'd say before the epilogue, there'd be... 2.. or 3 chapters left? :'(
