michael stood in the waiting room, pacing nervously back and forth with his lips shaking and tears welling in his beautiful green eyes.

he didn't know what was going to happen, if jack would be okay or not. he hadn't heard anything in hours, he was in the operating room. his only son, whom he loved more than anything, could die today and everything would be his fault.

he had thought about it; about how it would've been different if luke hadn't come back into his life, if he hadn't spent half his life waiting for a person who's never going to be mentally stable.

and all of these years when he could've made a life for himself, he wasted getting drunk every night, stopping, and then eventually doing it again. even after jack was born, he continued to go through phases where he would drown his body with alcohol and not return home until five am the next morning.

it had been an endless cycle of hurting, too. the pain had never seemed to go away, either. michael made mistakes over and over and over again without even thinking about the consequences that would inevitably come out of them.

he loved luke, that was true. but he barely even knew luke. he would never know who he really was because his mind was clouded with hallucinations and bad thoughts. they would never fully understand each other like they used to.

they had helped each other. after luke dropped out, michael helped him through it, and eventually he went back to school. when michael felt like suffocating again, luke was always there, though they had never met before that. the two lovers were always destined to fall apart.

michael's head returned to the room, slightly spinning from dizziness. he sat down, trying to calm himself, but ended up vigorously shaking his leg. he was worried as hell.

in his heart, he knew something would eventually go wrong. the only thing he could do was try to avoid it as long as possible, even if that meant walking away from everything he had ever known.

but the moment he had been waiting for had finally come as the surgeon walked through the double doors. michael stood up, knowing it was for him, and anxiously awaited the news.
