michael walked quietly through the door of the dark apartment, hoping that calum was asleep in their bed.

in the back of his mind, and the middle, and the front, he knew that it wouldn't be their bed for long after he found out what had happened.

he placed his leather jacket over the couch and kept walking towards the bedroom, where he discovered that calum was indeed asleep, hugging a pillow like he hadn't hugged something or someone in years.

it had only been two weeks.

michael's friends, josh and tyler, had let him crash at their place because they had a spare bedroom that wasn't being used, and tyler was moving out in a week or so because he was getting married.

michael had thought about moving in with josh permanently.

and that was bad. he knew it was bad. but the guilt that weighed him down was becoming too much. he didn't know how to even start to explain to calum.

michael knew that their breakup was inevitable. whether it was because of a stupid one night stand or luke's return. he might love calum, yes, but it didn't compare to how much he loved luke. he cared for luke so much that he would give up nine (seven at the least) years of his life just to see him again. how foolish was that?

but without luke, michael was a fourth of himself, a shadow of who he used to be, and he hated that. he shouldn't let someone complete him, but sometimes it just happened.

as silently as he could, michael pulled off his clothes and climbed slowly into bed at the opposite end of the other boy.

"mikey?" calum mumbled sleepily, turning around to face the exhausted michael.

"it's me" he whispered, reaching a hand up to rub his cheek comfortingly, though he could barely see, "go back to sleep baby."

"i missed you."

"i know, i missed you too."

"i did something very bad" calum whined, barely audible.

michael pulled him closer, desperately wanting to feel his touch once more.

"it's okay baby, it's okay. we all make mistakes."

A/N: i just realized that mike is counting down the days til luke comes back in seven years but he's really supposed to think he's coming back in nine shit
