I felt so incredibly nervous right now. I felt like my clothes looked ugly and my hair wasn't right. I kept trying to fix my outfit but I was just frantic. Finally I heard a knock. I gave myself a once over and opened the door.

"Josh." I greet. He smiles down at me. "Maya...wow. You look wow." He says blushing. I smile nervously at him. "You look good too." I compliment. He smiles and grabs my hand.

"Here's your coffee." Josh said handing my cup over. I smile at him and say thank you. He sips his coffee looking at me. "What is it?" I ask raising an eyebrow. He shrugs. "Nothing just you've grown up." He says. He looks down at his cup. It was obvious something was bugging him. "What's wrong?" I question.

He lets out a breath. "I just- I'm worried." He admits. I tilt my head slightly, looking at him. "Why's that?" I ask. Josh puts his cup on the table. "I'm worried for Riley. Her relationship with Lucas just seems-" I cut him off. "Odd?" He nods. "Yeah it's just odd. Like Lucas wants someone else." He says. I feel my nervousness return. No one knew about me and Lucas. It's the past and that's the way I need it. "Would you know if he liked anyone else?" He asks me. My eyes go wide open and I look anywhere but Josh.

"I don't know anyone who'd want a cowboy." I say. Josh chuckles. "Yeah I mean he dated Riley forever. I don't think he'd cheat." He says laughing. If only he knew. He wouldn't be laughing. "You alright?" He asks not laughing anymore. I nod with a small smile.

Lies.

"So how've you been Josh?" I ask switching the subject. He smiles at me. "I've been doing pretty good. NYU was amazing. I still kinda miss it." He says smiling. I nod smiling at him. "Yeah California was amazing. I learned so much there." I say. He smiles at me. "So Maya, did you see anybody in Cali?" He asks. I shake my head. "No I just felt like I couldn't." I say without thinking. "Why's that?" He didn't realize it but he was close to solving the puzzle. "Eh no one interesting enough." I lie. He chuckles. I see relief in his eyes. "That's kinda good for me. I wouldn't want you to fall for an ex." He jokes. I give a nervous laugh. It's actually the opposite I thought.

My phone started ringing and I gave Josh a small smile. "I'll be right back." I say. I walked outside and answered. "Hello?" I ask. I heard a sniffle from the other end. "Maya?" She ask. I froze a bit. "Riley what's wrong?" I ask. "Lucas h-he left last night." She stutters out. I sigh. "I'm coming over. I'll bring ice cream." I tell her. "You weren't doing something were you?" She asks. I look through a window and look at Josh. "No it's fine. This is important I'll be there for you." I tell her. "Okay." She says. She hangs up after that.

I walk back in and decide not to tell Josh yet. "Hey Josh." I say. He smiles up at me. "Everything okay?" He asks. I nod and sit back down. The things I do for friends.

I walk into Riley's house putting the ice cream on the counter. "Riles? I'm here!" I yell out. She didn't reply. I sigh and walk around searching for her room. I go to the door slightly cracked open. "I'm coming in." I tell her. Walking broke my heart. She was in a small ball with tissues everywhere. "Oh honey..." I whisper softly.
