I got out of the car and got my bag from the trunk.
"We've already signed the paper work. Just go inside and tell them your name."I had a fake smile plastered onto my face.
"T-Thank you for everything..." I say looking at them.
They nod, then drive away.
"Wow" I mumble as their car slowly vanishes down the road.
I sigh, and begin to walk over to the building.
Before I can open the door, a man and woman walk out, holding the hand of a small girl. Her hair was in pigtails, and she looked around the age of five or six.
"So, are you my new mommy?" The girl said looking up to the woman."Yes sweetie." She said with a smile.
I sighed once again and walked through the door.
A large desk was in front of me with a lady typing away at a computer."Uh, hello? M-my parents dropped me off. They said that they already signed the paper work." I say looking to the floor.
"Oh, You must be Fluorescent. Follow me to your room." She said with a smile.
We walked through a bunch of hallways, until we reached a door with some paint starting to peal off of the bottom. She opened the door to reveal a medium sized room with a twin sized mattress in the corner.
"Um, where's the bathroom?" I say looking around the room.
"Right down the hall."
Great, I have to share a bathroom with a bunch of kids.
"Dinner is at 7:00pm in the cafeteria. Breakfast is at 7:30am and lunch is around 1:00pm." She said.
"Oh, and my name is Ms. B."
"Okay, thanks." I say, walking into my new room.
The mattress had purple sheets and covers so it wasn't that bad.
I started to unpack everything. Hang my posters up, put my clothes away, and sort out my shoes.I began to hang up a "Bring Me The Horizon" poster.
"Oh my god! You must be the new girl! Ms. B told me that you were coming. My room is literally right next to you." A voice said from behind me.
I jumped in surprise and the poster fell."Bring Me The Horizon?! I love them! Do you need any help?"
I nodded and she walked over to me.
"Oh, my name is Amber, you're Fluorescent, right?"
I turned my head to her and I stood, stunned.
She had very light green hair, almost a mint color. Her eyes were a bright blue. Her skin looked so soft.
She had a pretty smile and was just a little bit shorter than me."Oh... Yeah I'm Fluorescent." I say looking down.
She held the corners, and I taped them down.
"So, Fluorescent, are your eyes real?" She whispered.
"Haha, yeah. People ask me that a lot. But yes, they are real." I say with a crooked smile.
"Wow, they are really pretty. How did the color happen?" She said with a head tilt.
"Well, um... My real mom... She uh, did a lot of drugs while she was pregnant with me and when I was born... So I guess the drugs effected my eye color." I say looking at her.
"Wow, that's cool I guess." She said.
"I also have a super power." I say in a sarcastic voice.
"Woah really?" She said with a giggle.
"Yeah, I uh, I can tell when ever someone is looking at me. It's like I can feel their eyes on me." I say looking down.
"That's awesome. I bet it's scary sometimes." She said as she pulled another poster out of my bag.
"Yeah, it can be scary. But, it does come in handy." I say while I tape the poster down.
After we finish, we sit on my bed.
"Um, can I ask why your family didn't want you?" She said with an uneasy look.
"Yeah, they just... I didn't meet the rich, stuck up family bar. I wasn't good enough for them." I say, biting my lip.
"Wow, that sucks balls..." She said looking down.
"Haha yeah it does. What about you, why did you parents get rid of you?" I say.
She hesitates, "Many reasons... My sexuality, I'm bi by the way. The music I listen to. The way I liked my hair. And my self harm scars. They didn't want a broken daughter." She said as a tear rolled down her cheek.
I lifted her head up and wiped the tear away. I stood her up and gave her a big hug.
"Come on, it's almost 7:00. Do you know what we are having for dinner?" I say.
"SPAGHETTI!" She yells, grabbing my hand and dragging me to the cafeteria.
We twist and turn through hallways until we find a huge door with a sign that read, "Cafeteria".
I followed her to a long line of kids of every age. She held my hand as we waited. I didn't mind it, I barely even noticed.
We finally reached the the front of the line and got our food.
I then followed her to a table in the corner with three people, looking about the same age as me."Guys, this is the new girl, Fluorescent. She's awesome and her eye color is dope!" Amber said while sitting.
"I'm Connor." A boy with dirty blonde hair said.
"I'm Allie." A girl with blue and green hair said.
"I'm JJ. " a boy with long black hair said."Hi." I say awkwardly.
I take a bite of the food, and realize how hungry I've been.
After like 8 minutes all of my spaghetti is gone."Woah! Did your parents starve you?!" Allie said with a giggle.
"Haha, no, I just haven't eaten all day." I say with a smile.
"Fluor, you have a little pizza sauce on your face." Amber says while laughing.
She reaches her hand out and wipes it away with her hand.
Her hands were very soft, and gentle.
A silence falls over the table."Well, I'm gonna go finish unpacking... It was nice meeting you guys." I say then quickly walk out of the cafeteria.
I struggle to find my way back to my room. Once I finally reach it, I open the door and fall face first into my bed.
I hear a laugh behind me, and I lift my head up and turn around to see Amber."Goodnight Fluor, sweet dreams." She says with a smile, then walks off.
